Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Man, that car's gonna look awesome when its all the same colour.. Loving the quality of the finish, plenty of shine.. Lovin the wheels too... 8)

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Damian, have you got any plans to lower it a little ?

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Hi Guys, sorry for my late reply, really must get back on line at home one day,

Yes I'd like to get the front a little lower, but I reckon I'd need maybe 185/60/15 for the front not to rub on the arches, how does one go about lowering these babies, spring removal insnt too bad having done it in the 'spring' this year but can I get off the shelf shorter versions? Can I cut a coil off but then I loose the 'finished' flat spring bottom...any thoughts ?
Update on paint, have sprayed the rear deck panel & front scuttle panel, rear wings are off for stripping & painting, made a decision to weld up all trim holes on the sides, Oh & maybe have a chance off a free 4ltr range rover block from a 2000 model, needs rebuilding subject to pressure test but as a freebee then why not!

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Actually, lowering the rear is more difficult, Damian. Not because of the springs, but because that pushes the track out wider, so you have an even bigger problem with D post clearances. For both ends you will certainly need to get springs specially wound, which implies being able to generate your own spring spec - not impossible, but not easy.

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Hi Chris, I'll be leaving the rear ride height, low enough for me! Its only the front that I want to reduce slightly, I did read somewhere (cant remember where) that you can use the rear springs on the front to bring it down but it's a tad to low, maybe use new uprated springs to get the right ride height,
for a change some bodywork pics!

I did primar these before adding the red!

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

 Richard, your too kind sir! wait to you see it up close  there little bits that escaped my eye but I wont show anybody if they dont see it.
Next I'll spray the bonnet, well am waiting for a 2nd hand one to be delivered.
How is Sparky ? she must be on the road , forgive my ignorance if she already is, its your engine that I drool over, I've been offered 4 ltr block, needs a rebuild subject to pressure test on the water jackets but would be a nice little punch under the bonnet, see if I could crawel into 15's on the drag strip!

Thanks Damian

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Very, very nice! 8)

It's making me think again about why? I'm changing the colour of mine from red..but I've already bought the paint and started on some panels

Funny that I always think of Sparky as a he - don't know why :D

Yes he is on the road and having fun, piccy on the Thoresby Park thread, 4th pic from the top.

My favourite wheels were always the Vitesse ones, but I am having to rethink now seeing those Cragars. I might have to raid the piggy bank one day 8)

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

I love those wheels! And I love the stance it gives your car, and they look fantastic with the red paintwork. Can't wait to see the finished result! I like the way the car sits, it looks purposeful.. I always think they look as if they've sagged on the back when lowered. 8)

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Hi Richard, looking very nice! arrow staight body n paint! I do like your front spoiler, temting I must say  great feeling of actually getting & driving it once its finished or in my case driveable :D

Hi WillsMills 71, thanks for your comments, I love red, I was torn between that or black, Red was the winner, shows more detail & sets the chrome/ stainless trim off. I was reading your thread on the inner top repair, go for it! look at my pages say 5~7, I was a little dismayed but thought sod it, cut it all out & rebuild it! I'm lucky I have a garage so its easier said than done but you'll get there, as Richard said these cars are like a huge meccano kit, one bit a time! Good luck with it!

V8P6B, yeah the Cragars grow & grow on me! will leave the back but may lower the front a tad, will need 185/60/15 to avoid poss scrapping, get enough of that on the rear, well when its a real bumpy road....honest, may need to reduce to 195/15/60's.
There's quite a good selection out there in American wheels that now cater for the P6 5 on 5 stud pattern..check em out!

This is where I ordered mine from, very helpful! http://www.raceways.co.uk/American_Wheels.htm

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Looking good ! What colour will the roof be ? Red or black vynil ?

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Hi Dave,

Roof will be red! so will the sill covers with the holes for jacking point access welded up for a smoother look, I wouldnt trust the old jack to lift the car in a stable way these days, cars isnt rusty but I much prefer a trolley jack & axel satnd for saftey!
The rear roof pillar panels will stay in vinal to break it up , also was going to remove the stainless side trim but it's now staying, give the body a sleeker longer look & looks better over the rear arches!
cheers damian

I thought about leaving the side trim off mine too, but when I saw it partially assembled the other week it looked odd, like there was something missing, so I'm glad it's been refitted now.

Don't bother removing the roof unless you know there's other bits underneath to sort out - it's far easier to mask off the car than remove the roof panel as far as I can tell.

It's coming together now though, keep up the good work.

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Just added the pics of my 1/4 mile blast! was awesome![/quote]

what did it run mate?

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted! time for bodywork

Hi Herts 2000,

Sorry for late, best time of 3 runs was 17.8 sec at I think 89Mph ish....

Am off the Hot Rod Drags this Sunday at Shakespeare Race Way, http://www.shakespearecountyraceway.com ... p?event=85

just for the day, All pre 73 cars, Its great weekend event with some fantastic cars of all shapes & sizes but all Meaty V8's, hopefully the P6 will do me proud on a couple of runs then that'll be my V8 fix for the year, its now using oil... I reckon the rings are starting to wear, puff of blue smoke on start up once the car is hot, Oil pressure is great at just over 30psi when hot cruzing at say 55-60mph, no rumbles or knocks either.
Any way more pics of finished rear wings & all polished, bonnet & roof next. cheers
