1969 (soon to be) 2000ti TURBO INJECTION!

I've had a look and tweaked the style slightly, it's tricky for me because I can't reproduce the cropping on either IE or Firefox on my machine, but I did find something that might help.

Let me know if this has helped. You may need to fully refresh (use CTRL & F5) to get the new style.

I get the cropping on my netbook, as it's only got a 10.1" screen. Doesn't happen on the larger screens, unless you drop the resolution right down..

Re: First car and first project.

Very nice looking car! I'm a young P6 owner too, and when mine developed various engine problems, I wanted to turn it into a 2200TC, but unfortunately Footman James weren't as enthusiastic and said no unfortunately. A turbo-charged engine sounds very interesting, but I'd rather stick to an original P6 engine myself.

Re: First car and first project.

due to advice, difficulty and my obseission with the sound of carbs I think the turbo is out and the carbs are in, a mate has some twin 40s up for grabs but i need to think about it because money is tight. the more i think about it the more i want a twin cam. How young are you because footman james just weren't keen on me at all with the standard engine.

Re: First car and first project.

I'm 19, and getting insurance on the standard engine was a pain as you say. Mine is over £900 tpft.

Re: First car and first project.

well im 19 now but was 17 when i first tried to insure it and it was nearly 1700 fully comp an i paid 600 for the car.

1969 2000ti, twin cam TURBO INJECTION

Good news guys I've got my engine found it cheap and drove 200miles to pick it up. Its a post 96 2 litre t-series turbo out of a 620 ti, due to the year there is no distributer in the back of the head as its the wasted spark version. I've bought a wiring loom and ecu from the bay and am looking at modifying the intake manifold to have the throttle body at the front not the back as i can't find a discovery mpi intake manifold so will check the landrover forums soon, also need sherpa bellhousing, engine backplate, flywheel, clutch and maybe auxileries which are also getting hard to find. I've removed the lt77 prop and diff from our spares 3500s, may also take the engine mounts off the 3500s to make it easier to fit. and then try it in the engine bay and see what fits :D

and the money shot...

Whizz..................................................................................phushhhhhhhhhhhh before long

I hope so, gonna strip and paint it tomorrow in the same colour sceme as my dads 4.6 and then once there both in we will have to see whos is faster haha.

6-7 seconds is optamistic but would be nice the 620ti did it in that sort of time and is heavier but the engine is older now and not so box fresh but maybe with an ecu remap, decent plugs and leads and a touch more boost it could be posible. I've got the fibreglass front end on and will be taking the sound deaddening out, just trying to loose as much weight as i can without loosing charactor.

I think that will make an extremely intersting motor. It won't be too far in character from a modern interpretation of a TC! After all the 2200's should have been twin cams had the new Rover engine been allowed to proceed. Also a sensible choice in that most of the parts needed to convert to RWD are straightforward Sherpa! The Sherpa used the O series plus LT77 / R380, and the bottom end of the T16 is pure O series.

I believe Rick (webmaster) has some of the bits to reposition the turbo and inlet manifold for inline installation.

Be very sure to use a V8 diff! Four planet wheels instead of two on the four cylinders (inc the 2200).

Chris

weight and power are one thing but its gearing as well and i would need a quick shift setup to beable to get through the gears that quick but i will give it a go and see what happens.
chris: the v8 diff is sat with the prop on the ground next to the engine ready. if rick does have them id be very interested in taking them off his hands.

iv got a few pics of different bits.
the gearbox with v8 bellhousing, this ones actually going in dads car and im having the one out off his as he gets first dibs on the best bits as he bought the spares car, so fair enough.

and the prop and diff from the spare v8 too

the radiator and intercooler but i think the radiator is a little past its best as bits in the core turn to dust when you touch it.

and then i put the engine wiring loom on but didnt get anything up to the alternator or the temp sensor in the front of the head?
and then i ran out of things that i could be bothered to do, so i tried something i saw on one of the gr4 escorts at work and made some lightened bonnet hinges which should save me at least 3 grammes each side.... every little helps.

820 vitesse 0-60 was 7.3, P6 is roughly the same weight (1300kg or so) but rear wheel drive so no wheelspin issues, should be able to match the 800's time, as long as the output flanges on the diff don't let go ! :(

800 goes well past 60 in 2nd so you only need one gear change, as you say gearing could be an issue.

Hope you've got the imobiliser bits and pieces for the ecu.

Cutting and re-welding the manifold has been done without too much trouble, so is a definate option if you can't find an MPI one. I have an MPI manifold, but I'm hoping to use it on my project.

Good luck, I'm looking forward to seeing the results, should make a great car.

I dont think i do have the immobaliser bits so i think it will be off the get zero-coded :( iv been ringing scrap yards all over to find an mpi inlet and petrol sherpa but iv been told ( by sowen whos a massive help) that i could use a diesel sherpa which should be easier to find :)

Yep, Perkins Prima (ie Sherpa diesel) block castings etc etc are identical to the O series, which in turn is the base departure point for the T16, so all the sump, flywheel, bellhousing etc will fit.

Chris

Does that mean this is the same as converting to a montego diesel engine or maybe even an L Series???

Rich.
