Hello Im not actually a club member but i hope to be soon when i get a bit of money together. So im going to start at the begining i bought it when i was 16 to give me a bit of time to work on it before i started to learn to drive and passed, I got it from the other club mag from an old boy in dudley for £600 and after a set of new wings it looked like this.

Then i went and got some paint matched, changed a rear wing and set about trying to get the paintwork a little neater, it is better now but by no means perfect. Also i filled some dints and repaired some of the worst areas of rot on the bottom of the doors other mechanical things were sorted out as well ready to use it as my every day car and by this time it looked a little like this.

at this stage i passed my test and living in wales and going to school in leeds ment it had to take the long voyage up north and it did it without a problem. While in yorkshire the odd thing went wrong but it wasnt too much hassel. Once home again i had some spare bits knocking around so started to play around with the look of the car slightly, I added bullet mirrors off my days 3500s and his old rostyles as he now has sd1 wheels.

painted the centres again and bolted them on.

hmm Ive missed something here, at some point between trying the wheels and fitting them I changed the engine after cracking a piston and bought a pretty knackered v8 valance off ebay welded up all the undesirable holes and welded the corners on which i had to make as it didnt have any when it arriver, then filled and painted it and did simular with the rear valance .

missed some bits but ill leave it their untill later.
Hope you enjoy it.

Re: First car and first project.

Righty Tolson, see you're at uni, so you must be about a similar age to myself.

How long have you had the car? I've had mine for just over a year and only now is it coming together.

I have a pair of bullet mirrors fitted to my 2000tc, they're on the end of the bonnets around where the bonnet bolts to the body.

my 2000 is tobacco leaf, fitted with a series 1 bonnet, 15inch rostyles, Icelet and a few other pieces, kicking about the garage. Its soon to have the re-spray finished off.

Just like to say that you're car's looking pretty nice, hope you're pleased with it.

Re: First car and first project.

Blimey that is a super looking bit of steel you've got there... I think P6's look boss on RoStyle wheels, really smart indeed... Keep up the hard work, you've done a blinding job so far...

Re: First car and first project.

Great first car IMO :)
My first one on the road officially was a C plate in City Grey. Wish I'd kept it, cliche I know

Re: First car and first project.

I see you removed the side chrome strips to give it the minimalist look
Very nice

Re: First car and first project.

Well im not actually at uni yes im in 6th form so a little bit younger (18) had the car for 1 and a half years now but have been using it every day for the last 8 months (as long as i have been able to drive).

I love the look of the RoStyles but i keep thinking about the same sd1 wheels as my dad but in some bright colour,

Re: First car and first project.

Nice job - looks excellent. I think I remember this car being on the market a few years ago.

Keep the RoStyles IMHO, they really suit the car.

Cheers

Re: First car and first project.

I think the Vit alloys suit the series 2, but prefer something like minilites on a series 1. Love the de-bumpered look !

Re: First car and first project.

Lovely car.

Have you thought about going Series 1 rear lights?

You would not have a reverse light but could lose the reflectors on the bootlid edge
as they are at the bottom of the Series 1 rear lights.

If you really wanted to push the boat out you could use American spec tops
and have Red rear indicators (all red rear lights) - slightly illegal but hey who cares!

You could also use US spec clear front indicator lenses and orange bulbs for a cleaner look at the front wing edge.

I had some on a Series 1 V8 and only changed them at MoT time
- never had a (Police) problem even with it being a daily driver.

Re: First car and first project.

You would never guess i had a set of mini lites too but dont like them myself the centre it too large for my liking.

oracle: I think you may be a little confused, this is a series one and didnt come with chrome side stripes and they are series one lights although i like the idea of the series two reflectors and the clear front idnicators thats a great shout.

Fitted a motolita a while back too,

and painted one wheel nut red :D

you may also have noticed the dust caps :)

Re: First car and first project.

Nick, you're right it belonged to a guy called Bob, (Robert) who was a RP6C member for quite a few years. The car was well know around Dudley and Wolves. The original advert in 2006, did have a picture with it, but it had a very high price tag on, which is why it hung around and didn't sell, then I think the advert got changed at Bob's request when the car was out of MOT, in memory serves correctly. I have the original advert picture, if you want a copy of it email me directly at editor@p6club.com

I mean the EARLY Series 1 rear lights - yours are late Series 1 & Series 2, commonly called Series 2 lights...

The EARLY Series 1 rear lights contained a reflector, negating the need for the one on the bootlid, as on yours.

They are different - will try to get a pic up for you.

Re: First car and first project.

Re: First car and first project.

you may also have noticed the dust caps :)

When I purchased my Omega it had those type of dust caps fitted, but unfortunately they welded themselves to the valve :( which resulted in that all four tyres had to be removed and new valves replaced
The Guy at the tyre centre said that 'this was common problem with this type of replacement dust cap'.
Just a cautionary warning to anyone.

Re: First car and first project.

Under Road Traffic Lighting Regulations of 1963, only vehicles built with red rear indictor lens prior to 1st July 1964 are permitted to use red rear indicators on the UK roads. As your car is a 1969, you could be prosecuted if you use red indicator lens on the back instead of amber.

There is an exemption for some later built cars that are imported into to the UK where amber lens were not available, however you are required to use a coloured bulb or film to convert the emitted light to amber/orange.

You are however legally allowed to use white/clear indicator lens on the front as long as the light emitted is amber/orange
