Very well done on your MOT pass! I bet you're delighted! It'll be brilliant to get back into driving it!

Thanks Frazzle, it is brilliant, yes. Sorry to hear that you may have to lose your P6 :( , I hope you are able to keep it.

Well done Richard, Sparky's looking great now. I (actually the whole forum I suspect) look forward to seeing a Frazzle style arty photo shoot soon!

Don't know when your side strips will get done though - Clive's busy for the next few weeks

I am on the lookout for a good venue and will take some arty pics when the strips are on, should be fun. Clive is always busy  I am sure he can set a few minutes for me though. I hope.

Well done and well deserved 8) Cant wait to see your car, it looks like your hard work has been well worth it :D Kevin.

Thanks Kevin. I have said this before, but I hope Sparky can live up to people’s expectations. It is still a work in progress after all.

Hurray!!!!! Looking forward to seeing you and Sparky out and about very soon!

Cheers Adam, won’t be long I am sure. I would have loved to go to the Rover Show at the airfield down in Leicestershire, but without side strips and a bit of tim :D :D e to potter around to check reliability, I didn’t want to go on a 2 ½ hour trip. He will be at Elsecar, hopefully Rugely if it’s on this year, and hopefully Saltaire (My little sister is getting married sometime in September and Sparky has been asked to do the honours :D )

Fantastic job Richard, I bet you're well chuffed :D

Damn right I am :D :D :D . I will be very careful to put a limit on what I do next winter, I don’t want to lose the ability to cruise and go to shows for another summer and a half like I have this time.

Next year I have the chrome to sort out, maybe the seats to recover, and possibly the roof and rear quarter panels to cover. We will see. Oh and the carpets to cut to size and retrim.

I may even get the chance to get the windscreen wipers to turn off when I want them too, you never know

I am going to miss writing it up to this thread, but I suspect it will be easier to start a new one then.

Richard

massive massive congrats on your MOT well done, its great you and sparky are back on the road together. Now is the time to enjoy him again well done

Well done & congrats on the MOT Richard

I never expected anything less than a pass with no advisories :D

All down to your hard work and attention to detail.

Inspiration to us all reading your thread. Thanks for sharing!

Dave

Many thanks everyone.

I have a few small jobs to do yet, then hopefully I will take some final pics next weekend.

Then its going to be time to make a list of what I need to do next winter 8)

Let's start with remove quarter panels, derust and revinyl.

Remove roof, and A Pillar trim, check and treat rust, and revinyl roof.

Fix those pesky windscreen wipers.

and

and

8)

Time to drive it around now though

Richard

Piccies at Annable's today after trim refitted.

Just got to decide whether to fit the original 3500 badges or fit some 3500S ones (S Stands for Sparky :D ) ok ok I am getting my coat.

100 mile round trip, never missed a beat, just wafted along like a good'un.

Well done Rich! I'm still having a few issues with mine, mainly getting the sill covers fitting nicely. Sparky looks amazing, and quite understandably also looks a lot happier on the open road. Congrats on your rebuild, it's simply stunning. My restoration is more of a "get the car on the road for the rest of the summer and sort out the bodywork over the winter" thing. Whereas Sparky is now probably better than he was when he left the factory new.. 8)

Oooh! Tasty! Very, very tasty! I doff my hat to you Richard, you've done a really cracking job there, and I have to admit I'm jealous. I actually think Sparky looks excellent without badges, to be honest. I always laugh at the fact that today, ordering a new car without badges, what is known as the 'badge delete option', actually costs more than if the manufacturer attaches a model/trim designation. How about some small Series I R O V E R letters on the top of the bootlid, and neither 3500/3500S nor V8 badges? The exhaust note must make it pretty obvious what powerplant resides within, if that isn't made quite plain by the swiftness of your departure.
Especially considering the health issues you've had to surmount, you richly deserve high praise. Good on you.

Sparky is looking fantastic now, well done !

Let's not forget just how ill you were back in March, finishing Sparky in this time would have been an achievement for anybody, never mind somebody recovering from a heart bypass !! Certainly makes me feel pretty inadequate !

Now go and chill out at some shows, you've done enough for this year. At least let the rest of us catch up a bit

She looks amazing!

As for the 3500/S badges - fit some NADA ones if you're going for the 'S' ones :)

Will you be bringing her down to the Gaydon show in September this year?

What a beautiful car you now have. Sparky is now one of the most coveted P6's out there and by god you deserve it!

Now then, about that spin you promised to take me for...

Looks amazing Richard - did a double-take to see he's been debadged. Good idea, I'd stay with that!

Oh yeah... regarding the badges, what he said ^^. I love the clean and uncluttered look, the badges are a bit cheap and nasty looking in my humble opinion. Nobody needs to know what's under the hood anyway. Make them guess, it's more fun.

Many thanks everyone :D :D

I've been messing about a bit today, found the new 'raised letter, period' front number plate and got rid of that awful modern thing with the England flag.

Also, Sparky seems to be a bit high at the front. I have always thought this but hoped after the rebuild, he would magically sit at the right height - he doesn't.

I crawled under today and with the help of a tape measure tried, unsuccessfully, to put my mind at rest. The wheels, including tyres are exactly the same diameter as the ones fitted when I bought him, but according to the haynes book of lies, are 11mm higher to the centre line than they should be, making them 22mm larger in all  And that is at 26PSI

Haynes says 294mm - Sparky is 305mm.

The suspension height is supposed to be 352mm and is 374 on side, and 377 on t’other. Even taking the higher wheels into account, that still leaves him sitting 11-14mm higher than he should be.

I have been told by someone who knows more than I do, that tracking can make this sort of thing happen so I decided to check it out. I made up this jig and adjusted the screws so that it just touched the inside of the rim at the front of the wheel, half way up.

101_0845.jpg

Then pushed the car half a wheel revolution forward and measured the distance between the rear of the front wheels. Not easy to get a super accurate measurement with my home made device but it does seem to be around 3mm further apart at the rear, so pretty much as it should be.

So, I will have to keep looking into that one.

As far as debadging it is concerned, I didn't intent to, I just haven't got round to putting them on yet 8)

Richard

Impressive work there Richard, it must be incredibly satisfying stepping back and admiring the car knowing that you did that. Very jealous :D
