Re: P6 project: BW35 to LT77 manual box swap: the verdict

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, 2 doors left to paint !

Absolutely superb reault Damien.

I love the 1/4 panel logo too! Perhaps I really am 7 years old still! I think the back of yours all red with minimum embellishment really suits the car.

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, 2 doors left to paint !

In a word AWESOME, I too would love to see it in the flesh one day soon may be at a show, please keep us informed of the shows your attending and I'll try to get to one

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

8) Nice one! Bet you're chuffed, and rightly so. Looks pukka. I'm also liking the Autobot motif, and especially those smooth sills. I'm now very tempted to do the same to my spare pair, for attending shows, although I dare say that Sod's Law would mean I'd get a flat tyre when the smooth sills were on! Somewhere I've got a pair of brake light lenses drilled for Blue Dots, and a pair of them to fit in them. Came with my Organ Donor, won't be going on my project, you are welcome to them if you like, for nowt, 'cos you've done a smashing job on your motor. You could swap them on when you go to cruise nights, custom shows etc, whilst reverting to normal reflectors, if you wanted that custom purple glow, and possible the extra attention of Plod.
Wishing you many miles of Rovering smiles in your peronalised 'whip'! Wicked!

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Excellent work Damian, it looks even better than I thought it would. I also like the Autobot logo! And the blue dots, and the wheels, and the colour... and, well you get the idea. It's testament to all the hard work you've put in.

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Hi Guys,

Again thanks for the nice comments, much appreciated, Mr task, the smooth sills came out better than I thought, a few ripples but you cant see them now there back on the car, thanks for you kind offer of the light lenses, but I have two sets as spares, thank you anyway,

Still doing odds n sods jobs, fitted other autobot logo, polished front valance, To totally achieve my look as mentioned several times  I may fit 185/65/15 tyres to the front rims to reduce there width, also fit rear springs to the front to drop it about an inch with the tyres sitting just inside the wing wheel arch lips and rears slightly fatter. Have a 3" peep door mirror on the way to fit to drivers door frame for the last bit of hotrod look 8)

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

I also love the look and the badges are good too, borrowing a similar look to the Rover motif.
P6's seem to able to carry off the clinical unadorned look and the factory pimped full optioned look and in either format look superb, purposful and still retain the look of elegance and quality that the origional car designers intended. But that is why I guess I love the p6's.

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Been away from here for a few days and missed the big reveal

Looks great, never know it was a home creation 8)

Get that insurance upgraded

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Wow overwelmed by all your great comments, big thanks, its having a forum like this to keep us going, I think we all get times when the bloody thing is driving us nuts, too tired, thing go wrong, etc, take five & have aread at other project and threads & the inspiration is fired back up!
Fitted the door mirror last nite along with the QC manager pitstop checking out my lack of carpet, I reckon he can smell the mushrooms that were growing in the passenger footwell when I first bought the car!
Day off today so final wash n polish the alloys ready for the trip to the Valley gas speed shop tomorrow eve! 8)

Love the peep mirror.

Can't wait to see some good wide angle photos, hopefully you can get some a Valley Gas. :D

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Cheers Rich, will try to get some good shots of the car!

Cheers Damian

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

I'm interested in the 'peep' mirror. I don't want to have to drill holes in my freshly painted doors to mount mirrors, so I'm keen on the idea of a mirror that can be clipped on for the MOT test and removed afterwards. I need some sort of left hand mirror to get my TÜV. Does your mirror clip on and off again? Does it actually enable you to see anything behind you? Where did you get it?

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

In the UK a P6 (or any vehicle pre 1978) only technically needs 1 mirror, so an interior mirror only is fine. But I'm not sure I'd want to drive without at least a drivers mirror.

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Hi Mr Task,

The mirror has a 'U' shaped bracket mount, it's universal to fit left/right side of the car.

I removed the window channel from the upper corner so the bracket slides over the thin frame, it comes with two tiny grub screws which screw in from the inner side of the bracket to fix it to the frame, no drilling required, I then carefully trimmed the back of the rubber channel just enough for it to fit back into the frame without bulging out, This is the small 3" diameter version but still gives good rear veiwing, a 4" is also avaiable, I bought this from Ebay, here's the link:

Hope this helps :) cheers Damian

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Very nice job Damian ! Good luck on Valley gas

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Thanks Hans, should be a great evening 8) , will post some pics, still got to wash the car yet, been busy tinkering today, rear numberplate fixed, also the middle exhaust silencer was bit worse for wear so I literalluy cut it out within about 5mm of each end and welded a stainless tube in its place, modified the hanger for the rubber mount, sounds bloody awesome  ,
