Re: P6 project: BW35 to LT77 manual box swap: the verdict

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Loving the look of your car Damian...

Are the LR engine mounts thicker as well as wider? They kind-of look it in the photo.

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Hi everyone, been a short while since I have added to this thread,

SD1 heads are on and have made a good improvement, seems to have much better pick up, smoother running & a tad faster, oh and sounds much better, especially with just the stainless back box, no middle silencer.

Couple vids taken Saturday by good Friend Felix from His & BMW 7 series, we were on our way to an American car show at Billing, really pleased with how the car sounds, proper V8 grunt!, PC speakers on Full:

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Hi Damian , sounds good . What other engine mods do you have other than the SD1 heads . I have a set of SD1 heads ready to go over the winter , just wondered how they work with the standard cam if thats what your running ?

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Hi guys,

Stina, I literally did a straight swap with the SD-1 heads, the cam is standard but was new back in 2010 when I did the top end rebuild, replaced the gears, timing chain, lifters, push rods, rocker arms & shafts, upgraded to the SD-1 oil pump kit, bought performance Mallory ali electronic distributor.

This gave the engine a new lease of life and now with the SD1 heads, it runs really well, smooth with good response, no hesitation. I may pull the engine this winter to have a look at the botton end, its usuing abit oil now, would like to get it re-board to fit 3.9 pistons & fit new 3.9 cam as this will go straight on with out any shimming.

Dave, what is Petworth ? is it a Rover show or genaral classic car show, I'm may get to western-supar-mare this Sunday and hopefully make it to the Hot Rod drags at shakes spear county drag strip in mid september :)

Some pics of the new carpets

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the info on Petworth, could be possibility, see if I Can afford the fuel for this & Hot Rod Drags being that I live in Somerset, but it would be nice to meet some of you guys with Christine 8)

Guy, yes the two vids do look very similar but the second one was of the exhaust note with throttle off to make it snap crackle n pop..such a child I know but V8 is a spiritual sound

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Thanks for the engine spec Damian . Mine will be pretty similar when i've done the heads , did the oil pump upgrade / steel gears and electric fan a few months back , got the heads ready to go . Just need get the rocker gear , gaskets etc up together , and do it over the winter . Car and carpets look good by the way . :D

Re: P6 V8 project: Alloy wheels fitted, bodywork finished!!

Hi Stina,

Thanks for your comments, I also added a electric fan but just on a manual switch, also added an MGB V8 catch tank, get much better cooling with no water loss, also with the USA style paltes I get better cooling as the're much narrower than the UK plates.
Yep carpets have made a great improvement, no more dust flyimg around and I can now hear the CD player !

Re: P6 V8 project:, bodywork finished, engine rebuild next

Hi Guys,

Ingore the above, I goofed up on trying to change the heading,

Anyway, as you all know I did the topend of the engine back in 2010, fitted mallory disty & upgraded SD1 oil pump. ran well with recent SD1 heads fitted but now uses oil, puffing blue smoke & is generallay needing the bottem end/rings sorting.

So I have bought a 84~85 recon 3.5 SD1 short block with the better rear rubber crankshaft seal ( no more leaking rope seal) It has reground crank, new main & big end shell, bores honed out, new piston rings & new cam brearings.
Also bought a pair of 3.9 heads with rebuilt valve seats recut and valves ground in 25 thou taken off the faces, also just bought a new 3.9 cam.
So with the already new timing chain/gears, new rocker arms/shafts & push rods & all of the above , it should make a vast difference, spec should be like this hopefully:
Recon SD1 short block
New 3.9 Cam (chickened out on a viper version, funds not permitting)
3.9 skimmed heads
Mallory electroinc ali disty
Going to fit K & N's on the elbo's & rejet the SU's, wil try & get a NADA style scoop to have RAM AIR :), will try to fabricate some sort of air trap tray around the K&Ns to get maximum air intake.
First job is too remove front wongs, bonnet, front valance etc, remove engine, strip out engine bay ready for cleaning & repainting along with brake servo, wiper motor, heater, etc. Once done I can move the car to neighbours garage to concerntrate on the engine build, will get an engine stand to build up the new block, may paint in satin black & paint up heads, manifold.
Lots to do over the winter, cant wait to get cracking, will add upadates as I go, cheers Damian

BTW: Neale, many thanks for your nice comments, sorry for my very late reply
