Cheers Chris!!
I knew I had seen it somewhere, just my grey cells not fully operational last night!
Going to give the garage a damed good tidy up and hoover , today and make ready a safe place in the house to store the panels for when they come back prior to fitting.

All garages should have a hoover. It makes tidying up so much easier - especially if you've lost a washer as you here it rattling up the pipe!

When I had my Mexico Brown V8 with Huntsman etc, I used Triumph Maple Brown which was as near as made no difference 8)

RIGHT!! ITS TIME!!
Ive decided whats the point in waiting for my Easter/May hols!! :)
As its a nice weekend and ive got Connor to use, I am going to start stripping the V8 down, and do whatever jobs I can in prep for the panels coming back from the painter,as I dont really want them hanging about in storage, and chancing damage,,I would rather put them on as they get done.
Going to strip off all but the bonnet and bootlid,as I need to be able drive it to and from his workshop 2 mile away, take them off there, get them painted and re-hang them there.
Then I can refit the hardware, glass etc and adjust them when its all painted.
The door shuts have to be done,so I will take out trim, carpets and seats then take it to him without wings/doors.
Ive also sussed out my new "bargain at £35 from Currys" 12mp kodak camera,so hopefully pics will be better quality than my old 5mp cheapie.
In he goes,,,,,,,

Nice one Dave...nothing like grasping the nettle is there? :)

Looking forward to seeing the progress...and you may well yet be done for Malvern!

Anythings possible if I give myself a big enough kick up the arse!!
Wont have the roof/webasto done,as thats now a later in the year project due to the manufacture of the vinyl and webasto cover timescales.
And am waiting on the woollies leather seat overhaul kit to arrive!!

Its nearly naked!!!
It took just over 90 mins to strip the panels off the car,and after having a good poke and the toffee hammer test the only new rust ive found is on the d/s top front hockey stick area.
So the only rust repairs that need doing are the n/s D post,d/s hockey stick and top of inner wing on d/s rear.
Just got to remove the sills and I know it is solid in there as I sorted that last year.
Will remove any dodgy flaky underseal I find and give the whole car a fresh coat of black hammmerite underbody schutz with added waxoil.
Dean was kind enough to give me a good schutz gun he doesnt use anymore as it was his 3rd back up spare and not used for years.

Clicky piccys..

Its everso easy to get carried away when doing a mini refurb, before you know it,its a major resto job.
I was going to do the little bits of welding today, but on prepping the area and removing the door appature rubbers,it turned up some of the securing channel was rusty.
Fortunately I managed to pick up some nos lengths/curves,about 2m in total recently,so its a simple job to fit new with a few small stainless self tappers instead of rivets or spot weld.
Thats now done,so I think its time for a cuppa and sarnie before getting the welder out.
Luckily the old panels are a great source of sections thati can cut out that have ready made curves on them.
The base unit door shut area is going to get treated, sealed and painted before the panels go back on.

Looking forward to seeing her finished Pilkie. Connor also looks very smart with the s trims on.

I bet you can't wait to get all the fresh painted panels back on. I hope it all goes well for you.

Cheers
Simon

Hi SI.
Popped in to my painter after work and he has said that the red donor rear decker panel he has,is what they call solvent blown!!
He has stripped it with nitromorse and its mint underneath.
These red donor panels came from a 2000tc I broke, they are made up of nos wings and near mint doors that were panited back in the early 90's,fitted to the car,but the car never made it back to the road!
It was obviously an iffy paint job back then!!
So the decision has been made to strip all the panels back to bare metal with a good dose of nitromorse, apart from the original white bonnet and boot that are ally and are fine.
It will end up with a better finish from bare metal anyway as whatever nastiness is under the existing red paint on the donor panels will be eliminated.
Better safe than sorry!!

ps.
Even though ive had the V8 as my daily for nearly 11 yrs I still havent managed to give,,,HIM, a name!
A V8 has to be a boy car!!

Hmmm...can see where you're coming from with that Dave, but all the important people in my life that've needed lots of TLC, regular stroking, and a fair bit of dosh expended on them have been female.

So....put me down as undecided! :)

Project's looking good by the way....nice one.

I am lucky,,"or not",depending on your point of view, that I dont have a female money pit living with me,or any of those other expensive "are we there yet!!!" annoying items that turn up when a bit of late night stroking goes on!!!
All my hard earned goes on me,my cars and me,and of course the only thing that I do stroke a lot is my pussy! :D

If anyone has the correct paint code for the huntsman sills,it would be worth checking out to see if it matches, otherwise he will just best match the current brown on them.

Better late than never eh?

ICI ref for Huntsman Brown is RM17 only one listed

It's not given a normal code, like lots of the old colours.

Definitely has to be a him. 11 years and still thinking. Is that a record.

It must be. I've only seen sight of some photos of Richard (keynsham1)'s red NADA and I know what that one is called....'The Orgasmatron' :D

When these were painted red back in the 80's or 90's the new wings were not prepped properly!!
Once the nitromorse was applied 1 coat of primer and 1 of red quickly came off leaving a good result for the fresh paint to go onto.
The underseal was applied well, and doesn't need to come off,it will only need a fresh top up coating with added waxoil.
Just the 4 doors to do now.

So what's under the underseal, DAve? Could it possibly have been applied direct to the factory grey primer? I'd have a look if i were you and if it is have it off and replace with a modern treatment as discussed elsewhere.

Chris
