PAE .... Sleipnir???

I found this one which shows the actual connections in detail with the letters/numbers. Disregard the bottom diagram as it's for +ve earth, and remember I've only pulled it up from the web and so it's only as reliable as the person who posted it on there.

Cheers guys!
Dont know on the 3AW part of the loom. Sortof figured i should just be able to get it charging as its dark out there and not worry about the warning light for now...

Pictures here!

These show all that's left of the loom to the alternator...

For what it's worth, if it was me, and the original loom had all been hacked about as it appears to have been in your case, I'd get the later bracket and an ACR alternator and wire it in from scratch. It's so simple, and it avoids the possibility of leaving a bodge up from the previous alterations in the system to cause future problems. Just my two cents worth...

I've ordered the stuff - just without a car so need something in the meantime. The audi is no more...

Just noticed that there are 2 wires that come off with the thick 'live' wire to the alternator that werent connected.

Could these be meant for f+ and f-? The colour of the wire is so far faded it's going to be difficult to tell what's what i think...

OK - what's going on here. Doesn't fit??? Did i here someone mention turning it round, and if so how do i do it!

Also the alternator belt they've sent seems way too long. Is that going to change a bit when the alternator is right?

Thanks,

Rich.

It needs changing to the other "hand". Remove the pulley and fan, undo and remove the 3 securing bolts that hold it all together, and then pull the front section away from the centre section the minimum amount possible to enable you to turn the front section round by 120 degrees so the adjuster bolt hole then lines up with the rear mounting bolt hole. The previous mounting hole on the front section becomes the adjuster hole. If the previous adjuster hole was threaded you'll have to drill the thread out, and you'll have to use a nut and bolt on the adjuster. You won't know about the belt length until you try it after doing all that. The adjuster itself is either very loose, or way out of line. How do the pulleys line up?

Hi harvey! Thanks for coming to the rescue.
the pulleys line up perfectly. The adjust is way out. That was going to be the next piece of the puzzle :). Looking at it thought my old one would give a better fit, but not sure till it's the right way around. Also occurred i could mount it from the other side of the water pump possibly.

Thanks,

Rich.

spotted whats wrong with the adjuster - goes in a different place so that's easily solved!

Rich.

one last question? Any tips on undoing the centre bolt? It seems extremely tight. Is it reverse threaded or anything funny like that???

Off out to look at another car back in an hour or so...

THanks,

Rich

The pulley nut is normal thread. Carefully grip it in a vice using soft jaws or wrap and old fanbelt tightly round it and clamp that.

sleipnir is now joined on the driveway by a prius!

doing an indicated 85mpg most of the way home from buying it in leicester...

Evening all!

After some pretty hard attempts i havent been able to get the large bolt that secures the pulley to the alternator to move. Some pictures in case im doing something silly. Looks a strange centre to the bolt???

I can get to the casing bolts fine, but guessing i'm not going to be able to turn it with just that?
