It is growing on me too a little. The funny thing is though, when I stopped to take the pictures, this old boy wandered up with his dog and the exact phrase that first popped out of his mouth was, and I quote;

"I love them old Rovers, lovely cars, but of course its a shame they were always in crap colours, still I suppose its original..."

So on that basis, when I've enjoyed it over the summer, and it comes time to get the paintwork up to scratch, I'm going to consider a colour change, purely on the basis that if that is a stranger's perspective, then what happens if heaven forbid I ever want to sell the car (can't see it myself..) but I suppose brown is one of "those" awkward marmite colours, you either love it or hate it, and it'd be a shame to limit my market. I have to say that Mexico Brown does tend to look better on a car old enough to wear black & silver number plates; It doesn't look as good IMHO on a car with the later yellow/white plates.
As far as the V8 rumble goes, I thinks its one of the best sounds going, particularly when you're bimbling along, and you give it a bit of welly, auto kicks down, and away you go... Lovely... 8)

Re: My project... Now MOTed!!

At a car show this aussie guy was admiring mine , then in that typical laid back aussie drawl asked " what colour is that love , gusset yellow ? "
My old man was in stitches

Re: My project... Now MOTed!!

Very well done on the MOT pass, and the car's looking fantastic! I rather like Mexico brown, especially when it's all polished.

Re: My project... Now MOTed!!

Thanks for all the nice comments.. It's what I call a good 10ft car, i.e looks ok from 10ft away. I haven't actually done much with the bodywork; the 4 doors & wings were sourced from 1 seller on Ebay, in the correct colour, off a breaker, which has enabled me to get the car on the road looking reasonably ok without a respray, but there are quite a few chips here & there. I have painted the 2 rear doors, but they're not perfect. The only downside is, the doors have had the side trim holes drilled I think by Stevie Wonder, they aren't very straight, especially on the passenger side, where they go up and down by almost an inch. I'll live with it over the summer & enjoy the car, but ultimately I can see a colour change coming, especially as the door shuts need painting anyway. There is quite a bit of interesting "patina" about the car though, the bonnet has marks in the paint where someone has in the past stuck flower shaped stickers along the "power bulges" in the bonnet, and the spare wheel cover for the boot has the previous owner's names around it, almost invisible, but it says "George & Anne-Marie" around the rim. It'd almost be a shame to get rid of these features though.

Re: My project... Now MOTed!!

Well I suppose I could be the first of many in this thread and suggest a new colour...same as mine and I love it, Pimento, (used in NZ) or Admiralty Blue, though I have to admit to have a growing like of Quattros car colour but I think sundym is obligatory for both.

It seems a shame to remove some of the cars history with a repaint but as you say it does limmit your resale market and if you dont much like it yourself........ However it would be a darn shame to loose the tire covers history, history like that is a Visa says ....priceless.

Nothing wrong with that colour. I think it looks quite smart. Refer to my comments on Tobacco Leaf somewhere in my Brown Rover progress thread.

Nooooooooo leave it Mexico Brown. Such an underrated colour. But I'm biased.....

Is it normal for people to do double takes as you drive past, and stop to chat every time you stop? :D

It does happen a lot. Had two retired gents come and look at my E-type on Friday afternoon.. despite being on the side of the road with the RAC guy waiting for it to cool down. The number of people who still looked at it was only offset by the number of Corsa-driving chavs who hurled abuse as they drove by..

Re: My project... Now MOTed!!

Nice to see you're enjoying your first behind-the-wheel experience in your P6. I can share my father's experience driving around in a P6B daily driver in Cape Town during summers there, where he keeps hearing honks and getting thumbs-ups in intersections daily, and having all kinds of people coming over for a chat about the car in parking lots. He's never experienced that before, not really having had a lot of cool cars and, at 81, he's rather enjoying the attention 8)

I also like the look of a Mexico Brown P6 and, looking around at 2011 model cars, I see a growing number of brown/bronze models from V.A.G. and BMW and other manufacturers including the neo-iconic Fiat 500. If I had a brown car today I'd hang on to the paint scheme for a year or two and see if it didn't automatically 'update' itself. We've seen recently that white became the new black, and I think brown could well be fashionable again. At any rate it's a great retro statement :D

OK then Dave, you won me round... I'm sold. I do actually like the colour. Your's looks absolutely lovely with the Rostyles. I've got a set of SD1 Vitesse alloys, and was thinking of going for a look like this:

I think it looks the mutts!

I was thinking the very same. Isn't it funny that with all the colloquial comments on such supposedly unpleasant colours, all of a sudden are trend-setting again
