My 1968 S1 Rover P6B Three Thousand Five's Refreshtoration!

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

Bit by bit, slowly but surely!! :)
Allowing for a weeks delay due to a paint cockup and bank hol,its still just on schedule for the 14th june show! :D
MMM?!!
Maybe it would be quicker if I got a bigger brush!!

Fantastic work. Paint looking stunning.

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

Cheers! :)

So far I am very happy with the quality of his work!
Comparing a repainted 1/4 panel with an original D post, the match is extreemly good!
Wings come back on Weds,so i've got to fit the doors hardware back on before they arrive!

Engine 98% assembled, just the fan, alt, dist to fit then the rad,and it can be started up again! :)
So no more pushing it in and out of the garage!

Casper decided it was too warm to do anything today,so spent most of the day on his bed!

Right!
Time to bung me sunday roast in a slow oven and have a long bath!

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

The engine is all back together, and running well.
Engine bay is finished, insofar as,all I can do without stripping things out!
The snagging will be done between now and the show,as I do the rest of the car,as I am bound to notice a bit I missed,or needs touching up!
I've tried to get it to an excellently maintained and really kept clean with a slight age patina look!,rather than a full on OTT resto jobbie!
I have an idea what to do about the heaterbox insulation,as it should have a plastic type cover over it!
Will experiment if I get time!
Well happy with the results,so theres no excuse not to give PLK 1E the same treatment!

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

That is looking great... The paint match looks spot-on to me! What course of action did you take to get the right paint code/mixture in the end?!

What a great looking car this will be

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

See from post starting, BO!!@cK$!
I can only presume that they tinted/shaded the mix I took back to match the polished up original rear valence panel I gave them,as it came back in the same tin!
Its very likely that on the production line there were slightly differing shades when the panels were painted,as can be seen on some known original paint tobacco cars!
Allow for age, fade, etc and I am happy it is as close as poss to what was original.
Right time to go get a nice juicy steak to go with my chips! :D

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

Its always difficult to tell whether a paint is the right shade without a side-by-side comparison but that Lycoming Grey seems to be a very good choice for the engine bits.
Looks just right, as does the whole engine bay!
Proper job!

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

Finished fitting up 3 of the doors today,4th comes back in the morning with all the wings.
Hopefully the next 3 days will see last door fitted up,sills, front and rear decks fitted, wings and lights fitted!

That should leave the front and rear valences, bumpers, bonnet, boot to do on monday, and the roof should be done for weds morning to fit before the weekend show!!
Its gonna be tight!!!

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

Drivers side about done! :D
I've just got to nip up the fixings once its all together and the rest of the shutlines tally!
Should be picking up 2 wings, both valences, boot and bonnet tomorrow morning, dropping off the roof, and a 1/4 panel that needs redoing!
That will keep me busy Mon/Tues till the roof comes back Weds morn!
Weds!
Fit roof,headlining,1/4 panel and interior trim back in.
Thurs!
Final going over to make sure all is well and nothing silly has been missed.
Fri!
Will be giving it a good clean, hoover, polish etc ready for the weekend show!
Its going to be a busy week!!

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

nice work and great progress!
I hope you enjoy it with the time pressure Putting everything together is the nicest part of restoring for me and a tight time schedule could spoil it.

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

I wont be rushing it,and if its not done in time it doesnt matter!
But giving myself a target, stops me sitting on my arse and saying tomorrow or next week will do!

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

Bonnet on and lined up, :D ,then remembered I hadnt fitted the rear seal and painted the satin black!
Too hasty to see it on!
So off it came,I did the jobs, had a lunchbreak while the paint dried and started again!
Both wings on and lined up,but camera went flat!
Its looking nicer every day! 8)

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work has started!!

The final panels came back this morning,1 day ahead of schedule, due to Wayne doing an evening stint to catch up! :)
He is hoping to have enough time on friday afternoon/early eve to come to my place and give it a de-nib and polish before the weekend event!
If not,it will be going back to him for a final flat and polish in a couple of weeks anyway!
Still just on schedule, and today just about finished fitting all panels bar roof and 1/4's! :D
An early start in the morning will see them all finally tightened up,front grille, lights and bumpers on,leaving the roof for the afternoon!
All door and rear wing seals done, rear deck and boot all ok,bonnet seals back on,just the bonnet lining frame to repaint and re-fit.
Casper has,as usual been watching over proceedings, but from his new comfy place, and didnt like it when the bin men whizzed passed!
Piccy link in sig now updated with 360 piccys!

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work nearly finished

I dont mind you stroking my pussy next time you are in the UK!
And if I still have it,once you have had a quick polish of a panel or 2,we can take a spin in the S1 as well! :)

Re: My 1968 S1V8P6Bs Refreshtoration,Refurb work nearly finished

Wow, your car looks fantastic. Just like mine, but nothing like it ! Immaculate Arden green really suits a Series One. I'd Better get my best 4" brush out...
Excuse my ignorance, what is the show you're hoping to get to this weekend ?

Cheers, Dan.
