A bonus of being off work (hopefully not for much longer!) means I've had the time to do a few little jobs on Jinx over the last few days. It's had a squashed nearside sill cover since I got it so I (actually Testrider did, thanks Paul) picked up a rough looking but solid one from Ian Wilson which my Dad and I stripped with paint stripper, primed and satin blacked then swapped it over. Easy enough job with the exception of a few stubborn screws underneath which we eventually persuaded to go in. All in all a successful afternoon's work.
Another purchase I got from Ian Wilson with Paul's help was a series one non-wavey dash bottom and a decent non-wavey top too. While they were out I stripped and satin blacked the metal covers on either side of the instrument panel too as they were looking pretty crusty. This whole area was something that bothered me, you spend most of you time looking at the dash board (well, you do if you drive it a lot), so the inside is a very nice place to be now... just got to fix my clock and get rid of that bloody awful 80's stereo now.
Next up I finally got my Quattro-supplied police spoilers painted up in my spare room (you can do this when you're single and you don't have a garage). A few people in the club reckoned Jinx wasn't Monza red, I had my doubts too. Some trial and error and a bit of an educated guess has revealed that Jinx is actually Rover Flame Red '89', which is a touch brighter than Monza. The spoilers match perfectly in Halfords flame red, sealed with some cheap door draft-excluder strip from Wilkinsons, it's brown but it sticks well, looks pretty good and fills the gaps nicely. A big thanks to my dad for letting me use his garage and tools, that's his Triumph 2000 in the background.
