Ensuring this Forum stays up and running

I agree Steve, the RSR forum already caters for an all model forum and to be honest if you look at the postings they are few and far between. I believe this is because if (like me) people have a P4 question they post on the P4 forum or a P5 question the P5 forum etc etc. It's common sense really as thats where you'll get the quickest (and dare i say the most informed)response. I am not criticising the RSR forum, I do think there is a place for it, particlularly the more 'modern' and the much 'older' stuff but i do question the need for yet another discussion forum along the same lines.

I do hope you will reconsider Richard and maintain the forum within it's present format and current objectives, namely discussions relating to P6 models only. Of course the odd mention and discussion relating to P4's and P5's etc will be inevitable but I don't think they should be 'catered' for in the same way.

Interesting comments from both sides, although I've had more support for a combined forum.

Most Rover owners seem to have more than one model, personally I would rather talk Rover in one place, rather than trawling across several forums, I already have to visit a seperate 800 forum, and find I don't have the time to visit all of them. Add to that the apparently low traffic on the other forums, I think it would be nice for us all to talk together, share ideas, organise combined events, etc...

My plan is to have seperate section headers, which will "drop down" when clicked, to show the individual sections, if possible I will allow users to set a default section, so whenever you come to the forum you will see your main section, so if your P6 specific, then you'll have the P6 section fully open, with the other sections available if you fancy a look, giving a very similar effect to how you see it now.

Another suggestion: (as if Richard needs more :)

On the "Index Page", why not have links to existing forums and mailing lists for Rovers? You would make it easier for enthusiasts to find information from existing sources rather than *you* have to set-up, manage, and police more topics on the "Classic Rover Forum".

However, the new name is broad-based and lends itself to new sections for each Rover variation.

Hey, Richard .............. I thought you were trying to generate more *family* time

I like the one model fourms as there is a wealth of concentrated knowledge as opposed to less well informed people with good intentions which can lead to a drop in the quality of posts.

What would be an idea is to create sections for the "other" Rovers and then let them evolve where there is and interest and demand.

Imagine the exhaust fumes smelling of cod and chips ..........

Actually it depends on the oil stock used...

My favourite is oil from Thai Restaurants.... :p

That and the fact the maximum it costs me is 40p per litre.

anything to do with a kind of 'woof' feeling? :D

Even smells like a rover then?

You're sick the lot of you!

Thai oil waste smells of Lemon grass and Sweet Chilli when used in a diesel engine....lovely!

Would you risk recycled restaurant / fish and chip shop oil in a modern diesel with particulate filter ? I wouldn't if I was paying for the repairs

You have to know what you are doing Dave.

It's not a cheap option for idiots
- there are modifications that have to be made
and (cheap) ongoing upkeep of the fuel system.

I have friends using Veg Based Fuel in cars / vans/ HGV's
less than two years old with no problems.

Those of us into 'Alternative Fuels' tend to process our own
or use from sources where we can check quality
and BTW it is totally legal before you ask....

Knowing how much the injection pump etc costs on a modern diesel I don't think I'll risk it
I know it's legal - Car Mechanics magazine regularly does a feature on it .I think you are allowed to use / make a certain amount per year
Would the fuel turn to wax in this weather ? The glow plugs on my diesel apparently don't operate till it gets below -5 C so starting may be a problem
