Ensuring this Forum stays up and running

I've been on the 800 forum in the last few days - it's enormous - so vast that it's difficult to find information.

Already well catered for methinks!

Cheers
Nick

It's good on there int it!

You broken your coupe already Nick? :(

I haven't even taken delivery of it yet....it's an August 1995 Nightfire Red/Buckskin interior 827 Coupe. 2 owners, 79k miles. Been SORN'd for about six months, no MOT or tax.

It's got a huge history and appears to be a lovely car - and for the minimal asking price I could not turn it down, and I'm really delighted to own another one.

However it needs the cam belt doing (it's NEVER been done) and a few other things before she'll hit the road. It also has a spare wheel well full of water (my previous, rather more battered Coupe had that as well, any idea of what the problem is there?)

Cheers
Nick

Nick, make sure you change the water pump while you've got the cam belt off. Not sure if you've done one before, but it's nice and tight down there !

800 coupe is on my list of "cars to cut the roof off", if I live to be 150 I might get round to doing one !, in the meantime I managed to photoshop one.

So I gather....judging by some of the advice I've been given it looks to be do-able - but I may have to leave it to a specialist.

Love the topless Coupe - very nice indeed!!!

Happy new year mate

Cheers
Nick

When you get bored with it give me a ring and I'll take it off you Nick (seriously). Looks gorgeous! The interior is to die for, arguably up to P5B standard.

Hello fellow Rover lovers. Glad to see this forum seems to be a survivor. Well done Webmaster, good on you sir.
I've re-drawn the old Longship icon as a vector graphic, and typeset a new round emblem using the same familiar typeface (Eurostile by Aldo Novarese, an early '60s classic, entirely appropriate). Here's a lo-res jpeg image which could perhaps be used as a replacement for the top left of the forum 'header', instead of the now out-of-date one.

As a matter of interest Richard what will happen to the rest of the website, that is the non-forum bit? Will it remain as a source of information/reference or does the legalities of the situation prevent this happening?

a great graphic mrtask - and I'm still a newbie on this forum, but I am a bit confused by the text in the graphic - as I understand it the Rover P6 Owners Club site will still exist and that the forum will remain P6 orientated - the implication in the graphic seems to be the opposite on both counts, or is it just me reading it wrong.....

Under the words at the bottom of the circular logo, he (being somebody?) probably needs to add the word "Forum".

EG: "Formerly known as the P6 Rover Owners Club Forum" :)

Eric

Does the new forum by its name and nature have to include other types of Rover or can it not still remain exclusively in the domain of the P6? Is it not possible or viable to be "The classic Rover forum" covering the P6?

Ron.

Hello. Here's another version of my reworked logo for the new forum address. I've ammended it as per Eric's suggestion (Hi Eric, my name is Al). Dear Webmaster, I'd be delighted to supply you with my graphic as a scalable vector, without the red background gradient, for incorporation into the site. I'm equally happy obscuring number plates, cutting clean 'clipping paths' around photos of P6s and adding realistic shadows underneath, for the image rotation at the front of the site! Just let me know how I can be helpful.
I don't know what is happening with the club, as I'm not a paid-up member. Please keep me informed.

Hi everybody, firstly thanks to Mr Task for the proposed new header images, they are excellent, please excuse me creating my own new one, which should hopefully be visible now. I created the original images, so simply tweaked them for the new names. Hope you don't mind.

I would however be interested in the vector viking longship image you have, I've been using a scanned image. I'm not sure if you're aware or not, but each model P4/P5/P6 etc has a slightly different longship image, I had to create a vector P4 one a couple of years back.

Over on the right hand side, where the P6 image currently sits, I'm considering different options there to indicate the support of the various models, either a staggered front end shot of each, something a bit like this...

STA60018.JPG

Although it would either need some very carefull compositing of several images, or arranging for a lineup of the various models.

...or something similar but with the various bonnet emblems. I'll see what I can dig up.

Hi Richard.
Re the rover image line up for the header, would it not be possible to have an image of each model, then let it scroll through them, giving each image say 5 secs display time!and shift the search box to another location to create more space.
I think the generic longship you have created says CLASSIC ROVER whatever model owned!

Thanks Dave, I've just been looking at various Rover badges and was considering a fading-alternating display, or as you say various model images. Might have to wait for the show season to get some good pics at the correct angles.

Just to say Richard, how much your hard work & expertise is valued by myself & no doubt the users of this forum. :D

I'm involved with other projects & although I am not a 'teccie' I know how much time & effort that running the forum will entail.

On a pragmatic point, would it be a good idea to ask, generically at least, for a donation from users? There must be a financial cost to you.

Ron.

I agree with you on this Ron.

Why are different models being brought in?

I do believe that this will dilute the popularity of this highly successful forum and could damage it irrevocably

I am a firm believer in the phrase, "If it aint broke, don't fix it."

Richard

Adding other Rover models to the site will not be detrimental in my view!!
They will likely have their own sub-forum within the main forum,so anyone can use whatever section for Q's they like.
I feel it will benefit ALL Rover owners,as this is by far the best forum out there for owners to use.

Providing I can pick and choose which types I want to look at I see no problems, all that concerned me was the possibility that in an all encompassing tech section, looking at loads of (as an example) threads titled "gearbox problem", I'd end up trawling through dozens on P2's P4's 600's, 800's etc, all fine enough cars if you have a real interest, but which I don't to the same extent, and have far less ability to offer any advice.

I'm sure time will tell, and Richard should be commended for all his efforts so far. I'm more than happy to stick with it, particularly in view of the fact thar there are loads of P5's and P5B's out there with 35 boxes, and lots of SD1's with 65's......

me again with another 2d worth.........

I joined this forum after purchasing my (1st) P6 - and it's only P6 stuff I want to pick up on here -

I'm ready and willing to join the club if it stays together and/or pay some premium to keep this forum alive if need be, and I would prefer this forum to deal only with P6's - it's got history of it's own, don't forget....... and a great looking header!

There are loads of forums catering for the other marks in their own special way - http://www.roverp4dg.org.uk/phpBB2/ - http://roverp5.proboards.com/index.cgi? - http://forums.lr4x4.com/ - http://forums.mg-rover.org/forumdisplay.php?f=101 - to name a few.........

- so, why compete with them - to my mind, it's impossible to cater for everyone in one place -

 - my opinion - keep the uniqueness of P6 and you'll keep the readers/users -
