3500S with a difference

Bet you can't wait?

I've a few bits I want to do to mine before the summer but it's booked in for the MOT on Monday so I can't really do anything yet, it's a bit frustrating.

Looking good! 8)
Loving the colour too (Rover Paprika?) and the Minilites. Can't wait to see more of it..... :D

Nice one TwinPlenum
I second PeterB76's comments. Looks great, very keen to see some more photos including the injected twin plenum engine installation. I tip my hat to you sir, and have to admit I'm pretty damn envious!

I love the colour and extremely shiny too, is that a respray or original ?
We're all waiting for the engine bay shots ! :D

Was originally green ... painted it panel at a time about 2 months ao ...in celly! Its not a bad drop of paint really. Still a bit lively at moment, raindrops leaving marks etx ... had it a lot with celly over last year or so ... dont know why.

Yeah, celly is pretty rubish really, I've done a few in celly over the years and the finish just doesn't last, you're forever waxing / t-cutting to get a decent shine. Water marks even on 10 year old paint.
I've also had trouble with 1k acrylic laquer, just doesn't last well at all, seems to thin out on it's own and your down to base coat again.

I dread to think what these crappy water based paints are like. I'm stockpiling 2k at the moment....

Are yopu spraying 2K and holding your breath or using the full brething gear ? I met a chap who sprayed motorbikes in his shed using 2k wearing a carbon filter mask

Is there any paint system suitable for us DIY painters ? Water-based ?

Celly is probably best for DIY if you can get it (just search on ebay, plenty of sellers). Just mixed with thinners, not particularly poisonous, not like 2K ! For 2k I use a full breathing mask fed from a seperate little compressor located well away from the garage.
Water based is tricky as it needs a good flow of warm air over it to dry, otherwise it just sits there wet for ages....

I have to say, I have only ever painted complete cars in celly .... bar my wifes bumpers which she is forever smashing. Over the years had no problem with it. Good quality, high gloss thinners and plenty on and you can achieve good results.

My last 3 cars have all suffered from not going off properly. I am convinced the activators once used have been altered, left out or something. I am pretty miffed with it to say the least. It does go off eventually, but can take months .... months that if you use the car, can be to the detriment of the paint job. Similarly, if you get a car in and have to sell it, you could be faced with a comeback!!

Bonnet scoop painted but yet to be fitted. Need centre caps for wheels, tracking then centre boss. Done about 400 miles so far. Just ant to use at moment .... have new set of rockers all painted. Plenum to come off and be painted, along with afm and Y piece. Stickers to inner wings still to be put on ... general leisurely fiddling to be done .... just glad to be using it.

Nice!

As you say, a few little jobs to finish things off, then get to use it while starting the next project............

A 1968 Mk2 Mini Cooper is already underway.

As for the P6, this was originally green, with cream interior and all panels bar bonnet, bootlid and nsr door rotten. The panels had protected the base unit which as a whole was solid, very solid in fact.

Left in a garden since 1996 ..... a complete shed!! This car is completely and utterly unrecognisable fron the original i picked uJauary 2008... bar the number plates. This car is 80% new parts or excellent second hand. Goes like a train, sitting up the arse of BMW's on the M25, with only the fear of a driving ban stopping me properly letting it have it.

Looks really good mate. I'm more than a little bit envious, as my ride is still in eight million individual pieces!
have new set of rockers all painted
Do you mean that you have another pair of exterior sill covers in the same Paprika colour, ready to fix on once you get the bonnet scoop mounted? Or did you mean a pair of freshly painted valve covers? My lowered white '73 looked a whole lot lower with the sill covers and lower section of the front wings also painted in Arctic White, rather than the more common black. Under the hood I would be inclined to polish up the valve covers and possibly also the plenum chamber, perhaps protecting them with a good high temperature-resistant clear coat to prevent oxidation. Please post a picture of your bonnet once you have cut the hole for the scoop, but before you fix the scoop on. I'm also going to be fitting a NADA middle scoop to a Series II bonnet, and I'm also wondering what size hole to cut, exactly where, and how! I reckon you ought to fit some 'Police' spoilers on the front valance, looks a whole lot more 'purposeful' when the front wheels aren't so visible from the front. What center caps will fit your eight spokes?
I'm going to be picking your brains regarding getting your EFi system installed and working properly, as I am ever more inclined to fit my Callaway 4.6 Range Rover injection setup with Lambda sensor and Cats. Don't know anything about ECUs and EFi, but I'm keen to get up the backside of a few BMWs and "run like a train" myself!

That's brilliant. I really like this car. Hats off to you sir.

Hope to see it at the National Rally in June?

I love  the colour!!! however the minilites dont do it for me at all, they look a little course not meaning to inflame or disparage but for me I feel some of the other Rover mag alternatives look a little better I dont know what it is with P6's and mags maybe it's the vast expanses of black rubber from the high profile tyres, I put white walls on mine with a red car base colour and black/slate SD1 mags looks OK but I am still not happy with it.

NICE CAR   I do so love the Rover colour range available on P6's those very modern pastels.....
