Hi all.

So who's doing what to their cars this winter ?????
ME, First I get the double garage finished, then I am going to respray the spare set of panels I have for the P6, as 3 on the car are showing signs of rust, remove the old ones, give the base unit a good look over then underseal it.
And rufurbish the spare set of flat bronze leather seats.

Dave

I'm going to fit the boot mount kit that I've been cleaning and painting.

Finish rebuilding and fit a spare set of TC HS8 Carbs hoping to cure my poor idling

I might try to fit the spare dashboard shelf I've acquired because mine is badly warped, but not sure how much of a pig that job is

I'm going to get underneath and give all my UJs a good wiggle to find out what occasionally grinds when I start to take up drive

Fit a rear window that has all heating elements working

Fit another heated rear window switch so that I can control both the Kenlowe and the heated rear window (switch currently hijacked because HRW doesn't work)

Remove all the window mechanisms out of the doors and give them a good greasing, replace the windows where the winder "slot" mechanism has rusted, and waxoyl the inside of the doors.

Try very hard to clear out my shed to put all my P6 "spares" out of the garage and make room for a TR4 or TR6 to keep the P6 company. Hopefully the economy will continue to improve and my daughter can move house - thereby also emptying some of her stuff out!

Well, I'm just about to get my single garage demolished, and replaced by a nice big double garage. :D Saves me working outside on a very rough drive. (Gravel). Hopefully it will be built and ready by the end of Oct, after which I will be mostly finishing off the rear suspension and brakes, and spraying and fitting the last of the panels, and fitting everything up. My rover is currently on hold though, until my garage is built, and I'm already getting withdrawal symptoms.. When she's finished, I've got a 1960 Ford Anglia 105E, and a 1971 Pontiac Firebird to do... Sounds like my work's cut out...

Hope you got your planning permission before you start? unlike me!
you could beat me to finishing the build!!

I am going to remove all panels, take them back to bare metal, and respray the lot.

When they are off, I will be inspecting the base unit, welding anything that needs it (Looks perfect at the moment, but I am sure there will be a few small points), refitting the carpet properly (It's all baggy at the moment), treating the front leather seats and fitting, taking the engine and box out and having a good look at the box (may even strip it down as it feels a bit loose), checking the rest of the drive train and painting the entire underside with POR 15.

Then in the afternoon........

oh and hopefully rechroming the bumpers and number plate surround.

Not a lot I need to do,
1: I have to change the fan belt, there is a huge cut in it and you can see it's going to break real soon
2: need to replace the temp gauge sender as it's stopped going
3: remove the one worn out rear mud flap as its shredded. Thats all accept for another years motoring, actually its spends most of its time in the garage looking mounful at it's under usage but I am going to register it for 3 months for spring and maybe even summer ( im in NZ  )

When ever "Poppy" comes back from the re-spray.

I will finally change the rusty, dented, Hammerite painted roof panel for the vinyl one I have had in the garage for 6 years

Follow that by fitting the trim, cleaning the interior and getting her MOT ready. If I get time i might fit the electric windows I made years ago.

Yep, Planning all done, no objections, but am currently trying to get an amendment through... something I'd forgotten when I put the planning application in. Planning are incredibly strict here, so am not taking any chances..

My winter jobs. (which have been put of from this summer on the account of very busy at work)

Strip the wings off and protect for the winter.

Strip the sills off, see what is hiding and again paint up.

Fit one of these contactless ignition systems and retune the engine.

Get the radiator reconditioned, needs it, may get it upgraded at the same time.

Fit a Kenlow fan. I think the freezing of the carb last winter was down to the high air flow when engine was still cold. removing this constant airflow should help the exhorts warm the carb up.

Plan the respray from some time in the future. :)

Replaced my temp sender yesterday, now have a working temp gauge again :) reads dead on where it should 85 degrees.

Went to a share holder meeting for a company I have shares in today and met the immeadiate past owner of my P6B, he sold it in 1987 to a car sales yard from where I bought it in 1987 :D small world, my finding him was quite by chance, he has an unusual name which when I saw it on the share numbers allocation in the end of year report rang a few bells so I introduced myself to him, he was to say the least excited by the meeting and recounted several stories of his time with the car. I can see that at the next share holder meeting I will have to bring the old girl along, his sale of the car was one he very much regreted.

I intend to actually get near the coupe project !

I've got a bathroom to finish, patio doors to install, then I can move on to clearing the area round the side of my garage and building a couple of sheds so I can get the junk out of the garage and maybe finally get to the coupe again.

I'll have to fight the mice off first though, got 3 in traps in the last 2 days.

ON thre topic of rodents and the like , one of my friends had a fault with the ABS on his FIesta Sport and found that the cable linking the rear sensors had been nibbled away .He blames squirrels ..

Hope they don't develop a taste for brake hoses

Hi all.

If I do get round to repainting my spare set of panels,I am considering changing the cars colour!!
Seeing as it has a huntsman webasto and roof+ 1/4's and bronze flat pleat seats and mid tan,"jag biscuit" carpets, this will limit the choice of colours to choose!
A dark colour will give a better contrast to the chrome and rostyles, and a better percieved depth of shine to the paintwork, rather than glaring white!
I already have a dark red car,"the TR6",so thats out!!
Dark blue, another favourite colour but it wont match!!
Dont want yellow or brown or any similar shade!
So the only real choice is one of the green shades!!
Either arden,cameron,british racing green,lunar grey!!
I am erring my favour on the side of a deep, dark green!!
If any of you have a good pic of yours in green, please bung it up for me to have a butchers.
Also welcome your opinions on what colour you would go for?
Given my trim spec isnt going to change!
Cheers!!

My winter project is to keep the car running through a Scottish Borders winter and have it emerge (relatively) unscathed out the other side :) Scottish Borders council are notorious for over-salting roads in winter and this place tends to get a lot of snow, so if my car survives this winter then it'll survive anything. If it takes too much of a beating I'll have to reconsider running it through another winter.

Dave

Obvious advice to survive salt on the road is to wash the underneath and all knooks and crannies with a pressure washer as regularely as you can! And of course give it a good dose of waxoil in all its important places first!

Chris

Thanks for the advice Chris. I plan to remove all panels that can be removed (probably not all of them at once though), check and repair any parts that look bad and apply waxoil. I was thinking that I would give it a good blast with the pressure washer once a week at the first signs of salt and see how I get on.

Sorry , I think you should keep it white

Amen to that.. Pilkie, your car looks gorgeous in white. I've got a mexico brown P6, and am considering davos white as a colour. I think it looks so good on a P6.

Well my recently acquired P6B is in pretty good shape but, as there is some surface rust and peeling paint/rust proofing, the boot area needs stripping down to bare metal then given the once over with whatever processes I need to carry out to rust proof and re-paint (Hammerite?) the area... Has anybody on here done that before? If so how did you go about it? I'll also be adding some 3500S wheel trims and nuts this weekend as I've always though V8 P6's look superb with those trims. Lastly I need to give the body a thorough T-Cutting and waxing to bring back the life to the paint work which, although is largely good, needs some love...! You've got to show your motor some love for it to love you back, that's what I tell myself anyway...!

The boot area seems to be painted in some speckled effect as standard , don't know how you'd reproduce that
A good coat of Smoothrite would do the trick , applied by aerosol
