Maybe you ought to get that bloke from Grand Designs in? You know, contemporary design featuring minimalist overtones with classic underpinnings complementing heterogenous form of the structure :D :D . Hope it works out and the planning goes without snags. But, take it easy.

I'd prefer to get Sarah Beeny, Kirsty Allsop or perhaps Melinder Messenger in ! (Although I'd rather avoid the cowboy builders)

I suggested to the wife that we could get Nigella Lawson in, and she said "what does she know about building work ??" and I said "Who cares !"

Ditto and she doesn't mind getting her hands dirty.

Though it would seem she's got on the wrong side of her local council with Rise Hall!

It really makes me wonder what the council are playing at, no wonder these places end up in ruin when the council won't allow them to make money from them. Or maybe it's just because "She's on telly...." maybe they're just wait for her to bribe the right person, seems to work for every other planning application.

Reminds me of a sometime friend of mine called David Pinnegar - look up http://www.youtube.com/latribe. Would-be organist, staggering restorer/conservationist, all-round great bloke and an absolute nutter to boot. Can be difficult to get on with but he has achieved wonders for our culture and history on a scale far beyond pretty much anything attempted by another individual. http://southdownsliving.blogspot.com/2010/02/hammerwood-park-east-grinstead-whole.html is a neat summation of it all. Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a87_A1He-M and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wv46YsUQAcM - and note the SD1 at the beginning of the latter! The late Caron Keating also paid a visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lntG1WuMNRw&NR=1.

If you're ever in the vicinity of Sheffield Park Gardens, the Bluebell, Lavender or Spa Valley railway lines, it's well worth a visit, but it's only open a few days a week during the summer months, other than for concerts.

Mmmm The connection to the pevious posts is a bit tenuous, Richard.

But I do love Great English Eccentrics!

Glad to hear you're home and things are progressing well Richard, that's great news :D

Looking forward to the garage rebuild thread too, but remember to take things easy to begin with.

No worries !, been to B&Q and Wickes this morning, managed about 10 mins in each then needed a sit down in the car ! Gone for something a bit more relaxing this afternoon, no drums, it's Bass time ! Actually haven't played it for ages, so the fingers need some serious stretching.

Red blood cell count is quite low at the moment, so I tire very easily.

Part of the house revamp / extension will be swapping the kitchen with the current "Studio" (dining room). And due to it being a bit closer to the neighbours (it's detached though, so not too bad) I'll be adding some soundproofing just to be safe, be more of a dedicated studio/computer room then.

Sarah Beeney to oversee the extension, Kirsty Allsop to deal with interior design, Melinda Messenger to keep the builders on their toes and Nigella in to do the catering.

Now that would seriously help with any R&R. Makes me feel better even thinking about it.

So glad to hear you are on the up and up.

I now have this mental image of Melinda Messinger in a bikini and hard hat shouting at a load of builders to get a blinkin' move on! .

Does she have to wear that much?

And yeah, Nigella in the kitchen... ideally similarly attired... mmm. She's old enough to be my mother but I still would.

To return to more salubrious matters, Webmaster, what drums and what bass do you have?

What about moving the central heating boiler into the garage ? Tell the good lady it would make more room ,but really it's to keep the cars warm and dry.
PS I wish Melissa Messenger would get her roots retouched - and that goes for all the other "aircraft blondes" out there

For once, Dave, I agree with every word you say. Hair dye is one of my pet hates - especially when you see a blonde with obviously dark roots. A girl friend of mine also has lovely brown hair which she hides beneath an ugly purple dye... yuck. PS where did you get the term "aircraft blondes" from? It's not one I've heard before.

Already planned on having the garage fully insulated and a radiator in place, just enough to take the edge off, I'm not aiming for shorts and t-shirt all year round :D

My instrument collection doesn't include anything of note, so it's a Stagg drumkit but I've added Remo skins and some low end Sabian cymbals, so it doesnt sound too bad. The bass was the cheapest I could pickup on ebay £20 ! "Swift" make, body is way too light, so it's terribly neck heavy, could probably fix that with a lump of lead though. Sounds alright and plays well. I've got an early Japanese Silver Series squire strat, which is superb, much better than the Mexican Fenders. Errr, an Aria steel strung accoustic and a "Eastcoast" nylon strung job. Plus my dad's old Antoria gibson copy from the 60's. Plus an old piano and some cheap bongos. Just about covers it. That doesn't mean I'm a musician in any sense of the word, I just like to play and learn. As a guitarist I did play a few decent gigs back in the early 90's, and even did the odd one-man support set for a mates folk band, but that was ever so long ago 8)
