Just realised I haven't updated since coming into hospital, although I'm sure you've all seen me about on the forum so it can't be that bad
I came in on the 6th to start the transplant. They started the treatment pretty much immediately and the first round of drugs was pretty nasty, from coming pretty much fit and well, by mid afternoon I was shaking violently and doing my best Exsorcist impressions, but of a wake up call to say the least.
Over the next few days the reactions calmed down until the final course which again made me pretty sick, then I had the transpant on the 14th. My sister was the donor and I can't thank her enough, her veins weren't quite up to the job so they had to put a small line into her groin, lovely, was a bit worried about her, but she was great and never complained.
So the transplant was a bit of an anti-climax, they just infused the cells into me just like a blood transfusion.
I then basically had to sit there and not get sick until my blood counts started to recover, luckily about 4 days ago they did and I managed to avoid any nasty infections in the mean time, only requiring 1 bag of platelets. So in 4 days they went from zero to well past normal (they inject a drug to boost production which causes a little over production), down dropping back to normal. The only real problem I has was pretty nasty back pain as the cells started to grow, but the tramadol got me through that.
So that brings us upto today, I feel pretty good, quite weak, it's suprising how 3 weeks in bed drains your muscles.
The doctors are muting that they will be sending me home some time next week, once the blood stabilises and they can take the first test to determine how many of the cells are mine and how many are my sisters. Depending on this will dictate further treatment, also I have to take anti-rejection drugs, and come back to hospital 3 times a week for testing. Still about 6 months to go before the transplant is fully complete, and all sorts of complications to do with rejection can occur inbetween so still a way to go, but I'm feeling good now so that's a start.
Many many thanks to all for your kind thoughts, it's great to know so many people care.
Whilst I've been here I've decided that instead of extending my garage(to get the P3 in), I'm going to knock it down completely and build a new one, but incorporate it into a big house extension. I planned it all out and am determined to get it started asap when I get home, get planning permission etc... So I'll start a new garage thread at some point, but I'm really excited, it'll give me my dream garage, (and more importantly Mrs T's dream walk in wardrobe
)
Hope to see many of you at some shows next year.
