If you've yet to work it out, then how do you know it's pretty awful?

Worth knowing what it is as if its worse than it should be then by fixing whatever is causing it will save you money!

Thanks found that original post now had a good read. Mine seems to be running about 16 which I guess is worse than it should be. I know the engine is in rude health, never uses oil, burns smoke rattles and it exceptionally quiet so I will have to work my way through the ignition system I guess and read some other threads on how to improve things.

If you do a lot of stop start driving that's entirely possible!

One of the primary determinants of fuel consumption is age! The younger the drivers age the greater the fuel consumption

P6b's arnt that bad normally, I use use my GTO and I can see the gauge dropping as I drive :( at least with the Rover when I put 40 bux in it the gauge moves to over half way (its a feel good illusion) and seem to take quite a while to go down to the empty mark so for my 40 dollars I can get a few days happy driving.

A range of 15 to 27mpg seems huge for a V8 Rover (Maybe a 3500S with a 5 speed?). I have had loads of these cars in the past and usually I get between 16 and 20mpg. I recently amazingly got 23mpg on the way back from Beamish, but this was 60mph and all on the motorway so this is the absolute best I ever expect to see. It probably sways the figures a bit. I consider 20mpg to be a good result generally. If you weaken the mixture of course, then you can get the economy up to 30mpg if you want to, but you will eventually have serious mechanical engine trouble!

I noticed that too!!

Used to get 26 to 27 on a trip when it was on SU carbs, havent checked since the Weber conversion.

Graeme

RPi advertise the Weber 500 as carb that makes significant fuel savings cant remember the figure they quoted but was more than 10% how ever take that with a grain of salt, what I beleive is that a well set up Weber is probably very good but that most SU as they sit on most cars are probably in various states of tune ranging from bloody awfull to very good due to wear and level of competence of the tuner. Certainly the Weber has a huge performance benefit over the SU in terms of drivability and it does transform your driving experience and I must say the fuel consumption has seemed to improved though this may be all in my enfeebled mind  as I havent done fuel economy run since about 1989
