Quite a few of you will have noticed that Rick, our benefactor and webmaster, has not been around for a few days.

As most of you are aware he has a couple of health problems at the moment.

A few days ago he was admitted to Sheffield Hospital where it was confirmed that the latest thing to hit him was Norovirus,
not a good thing when you are trying to recover from a bone marrow transplant.

Consequently Rick's immune system was severely compromised and due to the norovirus he was effectively quarantined.

Things went from bad to worse and the situation was not helped by the conditions he had in hospital at Sheffield,
no fault of the hospital I might add but they were unable to move him due to his condition.

In addition to the norovirus he had also contracted something that effectively took away his ability to walk unaided,
this he had for a few days before admission, they tried to alleviate this with very strong pain relief.

The decision was taken last Thursday to get Rick back home and continue treatment for the time being at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.

I got a call to see Rick on Friday last saying if I wanted to see him in person it had to be then as they had got a bed for him in Pinderfields.
I went up to his house and whilst he in himself was reasonably OK it was obvious he was in pain.

Rick was admitted last Friday night and has remained in Hospital since.

They are not too sure that the new donated bone marrow has worked as it should at this point.
There are options for treatment and Rick has chosen to try more Chemotherapy with a view to another go at the bone marrow thing.
The line was installed yesterday (Wednesday) and chemo treatment started today with another session tonight.
I got a text off him earlier to say he was feeling rough but at least he hadn't thrown up yet!

The pain management briefly moved to Morphine but is now on another opiate substitute.
In addition to pain management he is also taking a lot of other stuff for various problems arising.
As a consequence of this Rick is not exactly well enough to partake in the Forum at present
although I know he does look in from time to time when he is able.

Once again can I just ask you all to think of Rick, Joanne and the Boys at this time.
They are fine and coping with the situation as it stands at present.
Subject to their permission I will update this thread periodically with any news
as I am in fairly constant daily contact through text messages etc.

Thank You for reading all this
