Go for three bottles Stina as I mentioned above... Better to have a touch too much than not enough!

Hi Ron , i did read that but you didn't say what size bottles ! Am i being thick now :? :D
Just been looking on ebay and the only listing they have for mineral brake fluid is for hydraulic push bike brakes , or citroen , jaguar , RR specific systems . Makes me wonder if my local SMC has got it right . I'll find out Saturday when i go over there i guess !

Hi Stina,

I have only ever seen one size of bottle in the local stores, hence the reason I just said three and made of no mention of what size. They are 500ml per bottle from memory. I should have been clearer re the type of fluid, by mineral I was meaning anything except for silicone, so you need one that is Poly glycol.

Ron.

Just put DOT4 fluid in, its often in a yellow bottle. You can buy 500ml sizes if you like, although its more economical to buy it in 1 litre bottles.

Never seen anything except for the 500ml bottles on shelves here, and don't forget once the bottle is opened the contents should be used within 12 months.

If you do replace the hoses you might want to consider braided Goodrich (or similar) items. Fit 'n' forget.

I fitted Goodrich hoses on mine. The hose between the calipers wasn't a great fit. The hose is the same length as the original, but it has a ferule on the end which restricts where it will bend, unlike the original which bends smoothly straight from the threaded fitting. Because of the 90deg bend the hose goes through, this means it's slightly too short. It works OK, but I would have been more comfortable with it being a bit longer so the bend wasn't pulling on the ferrule.

What Tom W says. Mine too is quite taut and I was surprised that the good people at Goodrich don't supply a longer hose or one that'll bend more readily.

I hope you haven't put that back yet, as changing the pad slippers so they're the correct way around is a lot easier with it all on the deck than it is once it's all back on the car. Still do-able though, and at least it's all nice and clean to work on.

I can pat myself on the old back and proudly state that I spotted it while taking up the piston slack prior to refit. The pads didn't sit right but now they do 8)

Back to Stina!

Hi guys . Had a couple of hours this afternoon so made a start . Got her jacked up reasonably high , wheels off and drive shafts unbolted and separated from discs . Ran out of time then , at least they came undone easy enough . Another couple of hours tomorrow . Did take a few pics but having trouble with my card reader tonight , think i've wiped them off . Hoping i haven't rogered it was relying on it for reference pics with the brake overhaul :?

Hi Rich thanks , I've wiped the actual camera card ( don't know how , all a bit beyond me ) did take a few pics of the dog just now and it seems o.k . Not to worried about what i wiped off as they're in the computer , just wanted to know i can record the strip down of the calipers . Think i'm o.k :? :D

okey doke - the undelete stuff wont work once you've taken more pictures... any probs just mail and will try and help out :)

Rich

Hi guys . Update . Got the rear up a bit higher this afternoon ( alright for you lot , you don't have to get boobs under the de dion tube  ) Bit awkward working right above your face , no room for arms , or to move about . Would of liked it a bit higher , or a pit would be nice , (one day) . Happy with the progress though . Got the calipers off . Left it at that for today as ran out of time . Just shut the doors and left it . I'll have a good look at the calipers tomorrow , decide if i'm brave enough to tackle them on my own .
Couple of questions ( I know i'm jumping ahead a bit ) . Does it matter which way the pad sensor wires go back on as i couldn't see when i disconnected them ?
Also when it comes to bleeding them i have always pinched the bleed screw up between each stroke ( with the helper holding the peddle down ) rather than using a pipe in jar of fluid and pumping without locking off the screw . Is this o.k ? I want to pump it all through ( fronts also ) until i've changed the fluid completely .

It doesn't matter which way round the pad sensor wires fit.

You can bleed it either way, but your way just takes longer.

Thanks Harvey . I did take a pic of the wires but it was hit and miss with the floor of the car 6 inches from your face !
Bleeding , i'll bleeding well do it the way i bleeding know then :D  Cheers

Awesome work so far Stina, where were you when I was in my courting youth?
Don't forget the struggle the more comfortably upholstered gent has getting his moobs under a car.

I do like the way you just get on with it.

If you think you have difficulty with no room for your arms etc, my hands are like shovels and are very tricky to get into tight spots like that.

Looks in good nick under there

Richard

Hi yes she is tidy , the base unit is near perfect , it was done at annabells in 2003 all with new panels got receipts for many thousands , then it only covered 3k miles before i bought it . Don't understand that myself . Not a patch weld to be seen . Most of the heavy drive line components are surface rusted , nothing a few coats of hamerite wouldn't sort , but not at the moment .

- Don't think he'll like being called that !
I have trouble getting my stomach under the car , then when I do I can't move my arms
Also everything is too close to see with my distance glasses, and too far to see with my reading glasses .
I've spent ages trying to unscrew something on my Citroen with a Pozi screwdriver , only to find it has a Torx head
