No real connection to P6s but I wanted to give the NHS a thumbs-up.
Last Tuesday I saw my GP because I had chronic insomnia and asked him to prescribe to sleeping tablets. He asked me a few questions, one of which reminded me that if I did manage to doze off, I would wake up breathless.
Is that so, says GP and sent me to a Practice Nurse for an ECG. Things then started moving very rapidly and within half an hour I was in an ambulance cutting through the evening rush-hour on the A 127 Southend Arterial.
Apparently a heart rate of 37 is cause for considerable concern! Normal service is 60 and upwards.
I now have a pacemaker controlling my ticker and can feel the difference whenever I walk up a flight of stairs.
The odd thing is that I had no idea that there was anything even mildly amiss, and the day before I had been out for an hour's fairly vigorous cycle ride in my efforts to lose weight!
Unsurprisingly, I am an enormous fan of the NHS and Basildon Hospital in particular.
