Would rather keep a buick/rover in the P6 to be honest. If I was going any different it would be a chev. The toyota 1uzfe is a great engine, but, I like my carbs and pushrods.... Don't ask why..

On a side note, saw a gorgeous stag with a Toyota 1uzfe crammed under the hood at a swap meet at manfield park a while ago... Yummy!!!!

If you're after a pushrod V8 with lots of grunt, look to the General Motors LS series. Fairly modern, loads of torque, dead cheap to buy a (brand new) crate engine. The 5.7l LS1 isn't even trying at 350bhp, the 5.9 LS2 makes a similarly effortless 400bhp, the 6.2l LS3 424bhp, then you're into the world of supercharging (and the supercharged LSA and LS9 motors are much more expensive than the N/A ones, and, frankly, are overkill for a P6). I'd have said the LS1 would be entirely sufficient.

I'm very familiar with the LS series, but, I doubt I will be doing an engine conversion to my dear Rover. The LS are a beaut motor, sadly are also expensive over here. I threw a MAFless tune, headers and nice straight exhaust on a mates VX SS Holden [6spd, LS1] and we went from 185rwkw [247rwhp] to around the 240rwkw mark [320+rwhp], all up it cost him around $2700NZD in parts and dyno time. Not too shabby!
If anything I would sell the Rover in it's current condition to fund a new bike....
