I just had to buy it as it had my name on it!

Now having had a chance to give it a real good look over,it looks like an MOT should be relatively easy to obtain, hopefully in January.
Electrics only needed a good clean of various terminals and replace the incorrect 12v bulbs with 6v.
Brakes seemed seized, but turns out its the flexihoses that are knackered,so got a set of 4 on order.
Bought a new 6v battery and got a donated s/h starter motor,as I think the one in it is duff, either that or the new batt is duff.
New set of tyres can be fitted at the mot station.
PICCY!!!
Me and Pete both hard at it,both red, rear engined 1967 cars, and about the same amount of time off the road,,ie 22yrs!!
Petes been playing with his Imp on and off for about 22 yrs,the same as the VW's previous owner,,
Bet I know who will be finished first!

Well all is going as planned on the VW so far.
Replaced all 4 flexible brake pipes today, bled system and all seem working as they should, electrics nearly all sorted, batt and starter now working ok.
Just a couple of 6v bulbs to get,and 1 earth to fix.
Refitting carpets, trim and seats tomorrow, give it a good clean up in and out.
As I am not familiar with VW floorpan and body structures,I am getting my MOT chap to come to my place to give it the once over, and any bits he finds that he wants welded or re-welding for the MOT,I will have to do this weekend.
Will be glad to get it sold and gone asap,so I can get the V8's little jobs done before connor the 2000sc is sold.
TR6 is away in its temp winter lockup, but I really want it back at my place asap for peace of mind!
Will be nice to be back to just 2 cars!
3 is really my limit,4 is too many!
Then my aim is to have the V8 fully repainted,"Yes it will be white",,roof and webasto retrimmed and seats recoloured by easter, and of course it will be wearing its new PLK1E reg number.

Joey Deacon ??? ?? :? :?
Never heard of him until I googled him,,, ,,and quite honestly I dont see the relevance to your comment!
As for the cold!!
What cold?
Thats what a heated garage, thermals and quilted overalls, and a wooly hat are for!

What a blinding registration and superb Joey Deacon impression too.... keep braving the cold!
That used to be such a cuss, at school :)

Still cant see what he means or infers by it?
Is he insulting me?,cussing me?
For what???
Pinching a cars reg number? Being a private plate poser?
I've got better things to do with my time than worry about the ramblings from the likes of TP!

Pilkie, relax, it was a little gentle leg pulling. The prolem with humour when written, is that it is just words, no cheeky smile, or humour in the voice. As I say, no harm meant. Sorry.

Put it down to a different sense of humour,"if you can call it that" ,,regional, cultural, and age differences!!
I had no idea who he was,or what he was known for,and I cannot understand the reasons why people feel they have to make jokes about the disabled!! :x
I tend not to make jokes about the afflicted, whatever the affliction,as I feel the subject matter is not humourous at all. :x

You do seem to have a knack for finding projects with interesting reg plates, and turning them round remarkably quickly

Knowing that PLK1E was out there,it was pure determination that spurred on the search for the car with it on,,"I didnt know what car it was on!!!" and 2 yrs later and lucky enough it was the VW,I knew about the Rover 2000 for years,I just had to haggle with its owner, and I bought the TR6's plate from the DVLA.
Nothing so far has come of the 1965 P62000 with the plate CYC1C,I put an offer on,but you never know!
Once the blue rover and the VW are sold, and I have some space & ready cash, will give its owner 1 more try.
But got to repaint and refurb my V8 first.

A couple more parts for the VW arrived today,so can keep at it over the hols.
Remembered I had to make or buy a front numberplate,so I spent a whole £1.50 on some digits and knocked one up!

Even got a VW forumite sending me a bag of assorted 6v bulbs as a freebie! :)
Knocking up some floorpan carpets as well,as I found a near colour match was that black/grey rubberbacked carpet stuff you see in shop doorways,as I found a decent BIG one being chucked that will do both floors when cut to shape. :)

that looks real nice, I cut my teeth on VW's, so I can pass on a little advice, if you don't mind of course.

Potential buyers will be looking for rust, these cars were more or less hand built by karmann, so have leaded joints between front wings and body, around the nose cone and on the rear wings. Accident damage or rust is common on the nosecone and costly to fix. Rust is common in the sills, and expensive to fix properly. If it's a UK RhD, then it's probably had a bit of welding on the sills already, which is fine as long as it hasent been welded to the floorpan. The body should seperate all the way around from the floorpan in the same way as a beetle (the floorpan is a essentially a wider version of a beetles). Trim and rubbers are quite pricey to replace, as long as there good, the floorpans should have survived too but can be patched easily enough anyway. The bumper on the front looks a little rusty, that would be expensive to replace. Other rust spots are common to most cars, i.e bottoms of doors, engine lid and bonnet etc, oh and the spare wheel well and bulkhead under the petrol tank.

The engines are simple enough, if it's the original 1500 then it's a good thing, if it's a later 1600 then they can suffer from cracked heads. Endfloat is bad, if you grab the bottom pulley and try and pull it back and forth it shouldn't move more than a nats, anymore and it's a rebuild.

These are all things a potential buyer should look for so it's handy if you can pre-empt them.

As for prices, you won't get much, with an MOT for less than £3500, £4000 to £5000 would buy you one on the road but needing TLC, they can fetch upwards of £7000, but your getting into very clean cars, over £10,000 is quite common on very early cars or concours. Yours is desireable as a RHD 60's.

If you need advice, the good people of volkszone will help, that would be a good place to advertise it too.

Sorry for the long post, and aplogies if you already knew all this, but good luck with it, looks like a real nice car for someone

Thats ok,you never know when a poster tells you something you didn't realise! :)
I am on the KG forum and Volkszone, and learning as I go about them.
Thankfully they are easy to work on,so recomissioning hasnt been a problem or a major expense,as I am only doing the bare minimum required.
The body was restored back in 88 but never put back on the road,it has a few blemishes starting to show, has had its fair share of welding, but my MOT guy has given it the once over for me and is basically happy.
If I sell it on to a new young or older loving owner for what its cost me then I will be happy,as the PLK1E plate for my P6V8 will end up being free!! :D

Did the bits of welding my mot man wanted on the weekend, gave the sills and floor all a coat of underseal.
Renewed the steering coupling rubber.
Doing the last few pre MOT checks and a good clean this weekend.

After chatting to various persons in the VW know,
I have decided that it will be put up for sale at a price of £4295 ono.
It should/will have a new mot on 15 jan,and then be taxed for the year, but I will have to transfer the plate to the V8 before it is sold and its new docs need to be issued,so I reckon it will be ready to be sold by mid/late feb.
I will be taking it to the Shepton Mallet resto show on 12/13 feb,so anyone interested can have a look at it there.

Careful Pilkie, you might like it!!

Seems a fair price and will make a good car for someone.
