Coppertops 2000TC

Nice project so far Keith. Plastic arch liners are a good idea but I don't see how you'll get them to fit without cutting most of them away to make room for the suspension movement therefore rendering them useless.

Glassed over welded bits is not a good idea, there will be tears before bedtime with this approach. Metaled areas need to breath as like all sealed areas moisture will be sucked in, and once in will stay in, causing rust (in a short time) no matter how well you thought you had excluded water or sealed that area. The best approach to any metaled area is to ensure that the moisture or water will drain quickly and that there is sufficient ventalation.

So as a general thought then it would seem my process of tidying up the weld areas may cause an issue further along.
I dont want to generate problems for the future
I will take these views on board and just use the seam sealant over the weld areas where they are not cosmetic repairs.
Shared knowledge is always welcome

The inner plastic arche's I was thinking of would be for the rear arches, where i seem to have the most rot and rust collectivley - Point taken on front arches suspension would be an issue.

Cheers for comments

I hadn't thought of the rear arches - I always seem to think of the most complex things first rather than the simple solution.

Getting some to fit the rear shouldn't be too difficult, there are plenty of Volvo 240's and 740's etc in the scrappers now and they have liners front and rear as well as similarish sized wheels.

Bit of progress made front quarter now complete with repaired wing
It had gone under and over indicator repaired with weld on top section and fibre glassed bottom area. the indicator fell to bits the alloy coroded and had been previously held together with filler which didnt help it much. Collect replacements tomorrow
Headlamp bowls cleaned sealed and refitted only issue in the headlamps was the chrome bezzels had coroded (replacemets now fitted)

Front Quarter prepared in base coat of white.

The bonnet would be a difficult repair it has cracked where the stress point is as bonnet flexes so i think a replacemnt is needed but thats later.

Crackedbonnet1.jpg

slowly the car is becoming a car again
only the drivers door to sort after rear wing area is completed and the drivers side is complete when i get an outer sill.

hope to finish back drivers quarter over weekend - (as long as wife dont see what my easter plans are)

Work Continues

Crikey!! You found some holes in the boot didn't you? :)

Keep up the good work, coming on well

my last project was a 3.0 ghia which i fitted a vinyl roof to . it was more difficult due to having to extend the gutter trims but looked the part on completion.

DSCF0023.jpg

As my 2000 tc is progressing from rust to metal and red to white I am toying with doing a black vinyl roof when i get that far.

001-15.jpg

is there a supplier in uk where i can get vinyl roof material from or is it more practical to try and find a donor roof already with vinyl.

All Interior now recoloured to buckskin - easy enough job and looks really well
010-8.jpg

Once petrol tank was replaced primed engine and she fired up first turn running rich but thats for later
still plenty of work to do but coming on

The seats were buckskin but i replaced the drivers back with a mango? tan coloured back before recolouring

I treated the front seats about 4 coats (with another coat over the colour change back )
the back seats only 3 coats needed
I didnt do the door cards as they cleaned up well and the colour match was excellent

the seats all do look really well and do not look like they have been recoloured all the old creases and vinyl sections accepted colour change with no problems
Before pictures of the seats
013-2.jpg

the seats were really grotty which is to be expected for the age and when cleaned up were faded and looked tierd

front seats recoloured

Wont be too long before body works completed only doors and 1 wing to spray with top coat of Artic White then we can takle the Interior ,brakes and bushes.

where is the best place to get a set of bushes
On looking the front ones are cracked and the back strut bushes seem to be non existant

Cheers

Keith

Before you get carried away putting all the body back on, at least leave the wings off as it will make the brakes and bushes sooooo much easier.

Try Ian at Rover-classic for the bushes.

All panels now refitted with bumpers & badges ,trims, spots and fogs some final bits to do like fasten underside of sills and wings etc

Note the front number plate
I replaced the rear plate housing as the old one was starting to look tatty and the front plate looked plain so i used the old rear plate turned it upside down and got what i think is a nice plate holder

Vinyl Top Fitted today may not be everybodies cup of tea but I think it goes well with the white ( same as one I had many years ago)

Top was quite easy to fit with it removed from car and it allowed me to get headlining back in so some more parts out of shed :D

Roof ariel was badly pitted and looked poor, so i fitted an aftermarket one not authentic but works fine and looks a lot better than the old original one

Before

After with a lot of work on base unit

Cant see to find where to fit switches for front spots and rear fogs at moment any suggestions or where i can find a pull switch that will match HRW switch with a different colour top

Cheers
