Can this be repaired?

Thanks for the link to the wheel logo vendor. I've contacted him and I think he will do them in gold now, but he doesn't think they'll be flexible enough to curve to the slightly domed Rostyle wheel centres that I'm using.

That's a shame. Luckily the wolfrace centre caps have a nice flat surface. What are you going to do, just order the one and try it out?

Finally finished the boot today. All painted up and although not shown on the photo, the seals and trim are now back in place :) . I also took the liberty of fitting my 'new' exhaust, I was going to leave it 'til I started the bodywork but couldn't wait any longer  . It sounds so much nicer than the old one :)

Fitting the exhaust is a good move, let's you hear and see progress, you now want to finish so you can hear that sound out on the road. Must be hard doing what your doing but as each little bit is done it's another step closer and your left with a better car. Keep up the good work, if it starts to become a chore then take a short break and get back to it. We do this as a hobby. Always keep in mind that you will finish it and then be back on the road where it belongs. Really well done so far

Well said! :D

Here's an update. In the run up to christmas/new year I was getting a bit fed up so hadn't really done much on the car, plus we had overtime on at work which meant less free time. So the other welding that needed to be done was put on hold. As I had a weeks holiday over christmas, I managed to get the welding finished on the rear offside wheelarch:

This was after i'd cut the rot out, but I forgot to take a photo when I'd finished welding and painting

I also started refurbishing the wolfrace slots I bought. I think If I get the wolfies on soon it'll give me a kick up the ar*e to get the bodywork started?
I've done two of the wheels so far. I sanded them back, sprayed on a few coats of hammerite smooth silver, then finished with lacquer. I'm more than happy with how they look :D . Here's a comparison between 'old' and 'new':

Were they too far gone to have a polished aluminium finish ?

Hello Dave, there were a few noticeable gouges that would've shown up in a polished finish. They weren't too deep but would've looked a bit unsightly once polished. That and the fact that I'm a lazy sod and couldn't be bothered with all the polishing

That is a great finish on those wheels compared to before! well done with your persistence in adverse conditions, it is all coming together really well, & keeps another P6 alive for many years to come.

Dave

Your getting there Will keep up the good work, it just shows what can be done when the mind is set. and hope it gets more guys / girls to fix them up instaed of busting them up ( if possible)

Looking good Will, I can only imagine how much time, hassle and work your putting in. Like others have said you must be able to see the light at the end of that tunnel now though. Won't be long and you can sit on your doorstep looking at it and say thank #### that's done. Also the car has been with your family a while now so how good will that feel to know you have it for a few more years. Well done so far and look forward to seeing you and it at the shows soon.

Cheers fellas! I know there's plenty more members on here with more on their 'automotive' plates than myself but it's good to have a little whinge every now and then  . At least the way i'm doing things now means I set myself little deadlines and make sure I get them done. If the car was laid up in a garage it would be taking me a lot longer for sure.

Mick, I'll more than likely be at Beamish again this spring, although I doubt if the painting will be done. I will definitely have the new carpet in and refurbished interior fitted though..plus the new wheels will be on! 8)

Those wheels look excellent Will, and your welding is very professional. I feel guilty about not making any progress on my own project after reading this.

That's looking excellent

To think that a few short months ago you were wondering whether it could be repaired and whether to let the car go, and now it's pretty much done and back together.

I'll be trying hard to get to Beamish, look forward to seeing the car there

Nice one :D

Well, I've been neglecting the car lately :( so took a week off work to get things back on track :) . I'd been really looking forward to getting the new carpet in but just hadn't had the time lately. Anyway, I was owed a couple of weeks holiday so what better way to use the time up?! I think the week off was well spent?

I'm very happy with the results, it's almost like a new car in there now?! ..shame about the exterior though

Definitely time well spent, I like the colour combo of the black seats and green carpet. Smart. Is the box on the tunnel a housing for a speaker ? Don't worry about the outside, the inside is looking very nice.

Yes Mick, it's a little box I made up to house a speaker. I'm making one for the dash as well, because I don't want to cut holes in the doorcards but would like to get a few more speakers into the car! . The car will eventually be a similar shade of green to the carpet, so all should hopefully match nicely? I'm still in two minds about Beamish this year? I haven't booked a place yet as I don't want to turn up in a tatty car again!
