Can this be repaired?

They do look different. Everybody who knows these steering wheels will see the difference.

Rich.

Keep up the good work their Will, the seats look superb and that welding looks neat, you will have it cracked soon

Massive difference Will that looks a good kit, you can see the difference on the wheel , sometimes when you do stuff you cant see what others can, keep going good job, nice colour green

hey will rover is coming on well i like the wheels you got would love them on mine so are you going to spray the rover green oh yea what happened to you on facebook keep up the good work

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

Gareth, yeah, the Rover is going to be green. I fancied a change and wanted a dark colour without resorting to black. Even though I love black P6's 8) . The colour is brunswick green, it's not exactly a Rover colour but I really liked the shade of it. The wolfrace were a bargain find on ebay at £60! :D
I got fed up with facebook, as I found that most of my friends (myself included) were using it as the only way to keep in touch  .

you had the wheels for a good price yea i like that green colour she will look nice once she is all done yea i did wounder where you went as i thought not spoken to you in ages keep up the good work

Well, it's been another long weekend of welding. My Dad gave me a hand this time and we managed to get the work done on his driveway. We had to dodge a few rain showers but it could have been far worse.
The nearside suspension had to come off to get at the rot and as usual things didn't go to plan  , but it's now sorted and back on  . There were a few seized nuts and bolts, then one of the copper brake pipes got snapped! I also spent a very 'pleasant' hour or so lying on my back in the passenger footwell doing upside down welding. Then after lots of singed hair I ran out of gas again! Machine Mart have done quite well out of me in the past couple of weeks with all the welding consumables I've bought.

I found a few other bits and pieces that will need welding but luckily the nearside area around the bonnet hinge only has a small(ish) hole that needs filling. It seems quite solid and is nowhere near as bad as the offside was :D .
I've now put all the insulation panels back into the interior after a good coating of epoxy mastic paint. I've also added some extra sound deadening pads to see if they make a difference. I suppose I should've taken some photos but didn't really stop to think about it

Upside down welding, hard enough normal welding lol, good that your dad is giving you a hand, does help alot. Seems like your well on top of it now so let's hope it's all smooth running from now, keep up the good work and won't be too long till it will seem like a distant dream

Great work, Will. When I read a thread chronicling somebody else's P6 trials and tribulations it makes me feel better about the frustrations and upsets I endure with mine. At the very least, I should bow down and thank the Powers-That-Be that Brown Rover has never suffered from rust. There's a lot to be said for a lifetime of garaging, and I feel for you Blighties whose cars have to live on the streets of the Great Nation. Come to the colonies, and bring your P6s with you. Garages are ten-a-penny here.

Thanks Warren, it really is frustrating at times isn't it. I think if it wasn't for this forum and the encouragement from other members I would have given up. At the moment I'm trying to source a garage for rent near my parents home, so I can keep the car under cover over winter whilst I sort out the bodywork. When putting the wings back on after the latest bout of welding I put my finger through the nearside front wing  . I can only laugh about it 'cos I have two replacement front wings.

Mick, hopefully it'll all be sorted for the Beamish rally next year

I don't think I could ever thank the guys on this forum enough, Will. My car certainly wouldn't be anywhere close to where it is now if it wasn't for the gang here. Not just the information but, as you note, the encouragement and support.

Good for setting youself a target Will :D
I think I may make the effort to get to Beamish next year as my inlaws live in Guide post Northumberland may pay them a visit and tie it in with the rally :)

What you possibly do not realise is, this thread and the quality of work you are doing is a great encouragement for others to get out and repair their cars.

Well done for stepping up to the mark and getting stuck in, and that steering wheels looks great by the way.

I hope to get to Beamish next year, and look forward to seeing the your car there

Well, this is how I've been working on the car lately
tarpaulin.jpg

I've got the tarpaulin hooked above my Dads garage door, then tied to the rear bumper of the Rover. It's what I've been working under for the past two weekends. Unfortunately there isn't the space in the garage to get the car in and the rain's been quite heavy again at times, so I bought a 'tarp' from machine mart. It did the job though, and kept the car and me nice and dry while I was welding. Although it was rather blustery at times under there!
You can't really tell from the photo, but the driveway is pretty steep. It wasn't funny at the time  but every time you put a tool down it goes rolling down the drive  . Mind you, it is testament to the P6's handbrake, it sat still and didn't budge.

The welding is now finished at the front end, all seam sealed and epoxy painted :D . It should keep me going for a few years. I'm just not sure what to expect when I take the rear wings off. It does seem a bit flaky under the rear arches but I'm hoping it's mainly surface rust and paint coming off?

I also had a little set back with the recoloured seats. When I put the backrests and bases together in the back of the car they ended up sticking together. I lost some of the colouring from them as I peeled them apart a few days later. It was most likely my own fault. I was running out of aerosol propellant so rushed the sealing process to get them finished. I've since recoloured the areas that needed it and put on a few more coats of sealer. So we'll see if that does the trick?

Thanks, Will

To help take my mind of all the rot I've been finding lately I bought some centre caps and Rover decals for my 'wolfies' this week :D . There's a bloke on ebay who sells domed resin Rover decals at £1.99 each. They're self adhesive and in sizes 28 to 110mm. I bought a 28mm one for my gearknob, the ones on the centre caps are 40mm. I quite like the fact the Rover emblem is silver and matches the caps, but maybe the seller could produce them in gold if asked? They seem pretty good quality but time will tell. If anyone is interested I can post a link to the seller?

I've just been out and had the rear valance off. The rear edge of the boot is rotted through and the reinforcement panel under the valance is rotten!
Oh well, "in for a penny, in for a pound" as they say...

Looking forward to seeing the polished Wolfies with those caps

Dave, I'm just going with a painted look for now. At least there's always the option of polishing them at a later date. I just hope I have a car to put them on with all these holes I keep finding!
