Building my double garage at last!

If you look closely at the advert, you will see that between the ramps is filled in on some pics!
These are detachable sliding drip and tool trays.
The one I am getting has 3 trays with it, for eng/box/axle oil drips!
I would like to get a jacking beam, but they are silly pricey, and I can make something suitable up with an old small trolley jack.
I may be lucky and it has one,but he hasnt mentioned it!
I also have some left over scaffold tube to make some extra high axle/transmission type stands! :)

Hi Dave
My mate Barry has a ramp like thats they are an excellent piece of engineering. He keeps one p6 on top of the other with this ramp.
they are well made we have had land rover discoverys on them as well as p6s u well not regret buying it . :D

Cheers

Andy

As soon as I get it, I will do a few pics of it going up,and of the cars on it!
Should be able to wheel it outside onto the big hardstanding on sunny days if I dont rebuild the car port!
May get one of those extending canopys you see on big vans/trucks at race tracks, and stick that on the side of the garage instead of a permanent carport!

Have you any jobs / projects planned for when you get the car lift ?
You could make a big stand like a transmission jack and then raise the lift to get a gearbox out while the box sits on the stand .(Does that make sense - ie raise the lift rather than lower the transmission )

Only problem is that you still end up having to lift the box off the stand.

I have some scaffold tube to make up a transmission type stand, also the builder left a few useful tressles,so I can make a high table to lower things onto.
If I ever have to take the autobox out,ive done it on my back with a trolley jack in 2hrs,so it should be easier with the ramp!
I am going to do an autobox oil and filter change,as soon as poss, and I have got a little welding to do on the rear sill area.
It will in general make life better for me as working at normal height is better than on your knees or back,or grovelling underneath with limited space!
I CANT WAIT!!! :D

I can see the appeal, but I worked two years with my own 4 poster, and still prefer working under jacked up cars rather than on a ramp. The real advantage of a ramp is the ability to drive on and within seconds walk underneath having a good look around, they are brilliant for that. I could always remove/refit any gearboxes on my own under jacked up cars, but on a lift most of the time it takes two as you're lifting from above your head, and as I am a sad anorak with no friends it's obviously difficult for me......

Having said all that, if I had the room to have another 4 poster without losing floorspace for most other work, I'd have another one like a shot. Bradbury 4 poster with wheelfree please......

My back and knees aint what they used to be,and as I am turning 50 in 2010,this should do for me for the next few years!!!!
I want to get another project to start on for next summer/winter,"I dont know what yet" but I have to give the P6 a good bit of TLC till then, rolling resto, repaint, etc!

Young whippersnapper!

Like I say I'd have another one, but not at the expense of floorspace. It should certainly help with dodgy knees, but not so much with the back as you can still be reaching up a lot which causes problems.

Pics when it's installed please.

I may take some headroom measurements tomorrow, you may convince me yet!

As I built my garage with an open pitched roof,I can,if I have got my design right, and if I choose the right next resto project, put a body tub up in the loft space, and have the chassis on the ramp, which,I can then move to the side of the garage, raise it up,park the TR6 under it and the rover alongside it!
In theory!! Will have to wait and see when its all in!
UPDATE!!!
At LONG!!!!!!!!! last,,I am off to pick up the 4 post ramp tomorrow! :D
A 400m round trip, luckily got my bro' coming to share the driving!
Also! :D
VERY lucky to find a certain type of, " VERY " rare seats for my TR6!
I've been trying to find some for 2 yrs!
And they are en-route so I can collect at the same time!
USA spec folding headrest and only made for the 1969 model year!

I've been working for a mate recently and he has a couple of 4 posters in his garage, I've found most jobs are a lot easier with the ramps. I fitted a diff into a P6, using a transmission jack, much easier than lying under the car, plus you don't feel like it's all going to fall on your head at any moment !

You do still need to lift things onto the transmission jack, but I think it's easier to do that out in the open than lifting whilst lying under the car. I guess it's just what feels best for you.

I have also found working on brakes much easier, or should I say less painfull, with the brakes directly in front of you without kneeling down, much less pain on the knees.

...and exhausts are much easier to fit.

But maybe I'm just in the "honeymoon" period. I must say after you've been under the car for a while looking up, your neck starts to hurt !

Hi all.

Well at long last I have finally got my special treat xmas prezzie to myself!
This is the previous 1 careful owner getting it ready for dismantling!

A VERY BIG THANK YOU to fellow TR Register & forum member,Neil, for a great deal!
And to his good lady for the baps and tea! :p

I am totally knackered now after a VERY long day!
BUT EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEMLY HAPPY!! :D :D
Up at sparrows fart, and back home 13hrs later!
Will update more tomorrow, once I have had a bit of a lie in,but hope to have it up and running by lunchtime!
Nite for now!!

Hi all.

Well after a nice long lie in,a good breakfast and cuppa in bed,I set to at about 10am.
First had to prepare the area by having a mini blitz tidy up,then got stuck in about 11am.
Fortunately when we went to Neils to collect it,and after a little creative thinking to overcome a dismantling problem,we were able to take it apart and get it in the hire van in only 4 main sections!
It went back together perfectly as expected!
A little creative thinking was needed as I had to do it myself, but the small trolley I made out of the portable commode wheels and a 18" sq pallet worked a treat!
Made 1 silly mistake and that was the locking bar that inserts either end,has an operating lever on one end!!
I got the wrong bit in the wrong end,and only found out as I was going to fit the other end,so had to backtrack a bit to sort that out!
Once it was assembled and the cables adjusted and finally tested "blew a fuse or 2 at first, but sorted that out",I celebrated with a cuppa, and the neighbour came round to see the finished result.
Also got my 1st customer so to speak,a mate had an exhaust heat shield come loose on his Mondeo and couldn't get at it,so up on the ramp and sorted in 30 secs!
Just got to have a play about with positioning,to find the easiest way of keeping both cars in and being able to get any one out without moving both!
Probably will be the Rover parked on the ramp on the right, and the TR6 parked on the left as the gap is a bit tight for the Rover everyday!
Heres a link to the pics taken.
RAMP PICCYS

That's it, I'm not talking to you any more !!

Now, back to rolling around in ice cold gravel whilst trying to hold an exhaust over my head....

I had a bit more of a play this evening, and they both fit just about ok.! :D
I can walk underneath it no problem, but when its up to its max and the rover is parked underneath,I can't get it to fit onto the safety locks,so a bit more fine adjustment is needed!
Don't want it coming down onto the roof of the Rover if the hydraulics settle down a bit under the weight!
I will probably raise it by the couple of inches needed with a solid wood pad on the ground under the legs.

Just pray the old TR doesnt drip fluids. Nice set up.
 Three big drip trays, and a solid jack cradle came with it,also an under ramp total coverage clip on cover,so no problem there! :D
