Hi are there any members in and around the Rugby area that could have a look at and give an honest opinion on a 3500 auto for sale at Rugby Classic Motor Garage,if there is I would really appreciate the help and would cover your expenses.
The car is advertised on the carandclassics sit and is priced at £1995.
Thanks in anticipation

Hi Moe,

Sorry this reply is late, I've only just joined up - I was wondering if you'd been to see the car or ended up buying it, I live in Rugby too and was planning to view it but its now gone from Rugby Classics website. Malcolm did a bit of work on my 2000TC and 3500 Auto before I sold them both.

Cheers,

3500

Hi 3500
Not sure I spoke to Malcolm about viewing the car and he was away for the weekend and heard nothing after that,in the meantime I was told I had lost my job and forgot to get back to Malcolm about the 3500, and as it was no longer on carandclassics website I assumed it had been sold.My loss I am afraid.
Regards
Moe

Likewise Moe, sorry to hear about your job, I've been there before myself and its no fun at all. Sorry you missed out on the 3500 too, it looked pretty good in the photos and Malcolm does get hold of some nice cars.

Re: Moe and Ess's 3500 auto

Hi all
Well, off I went travelling to Wolverhampton with Pilkie to view a 3500 auto, that has now appeared on the cars for sale,
and after a thorough inspection by Dave a price was agreed and lo and behold I now own my very own P6 3500 auto with 70700 miles on the clock, magic, drove it home following Dave, two white P6 got a few admiring looks, and it didn't miss a beat,am I pleased you bet I am grinning like a cheshire cat ha ha.
On the serious side I would like to thank Dave (Pilkie) for all his help he has given to us in finding a pretty decent 3500 he thoroughly checked the car inside, outside and underneath and after a very thorough test drive gave me a very positve opinion of the car, thanks Dave you as they say "ARE THE MAN".
I will attempt to put some photos on in a couple of days and then you can let me know what you guys think of my purchase
It is a 1974,white with webasto type roof and previous owner had owned it from 1986
Can anybody shed some light on a query with the car although it is registered as 1974 on two of the previous mot's it states approximate year of first use 1971 and the chassis number is 45122901E we noticed this, well Dave did, when we were looking through the limited history with the car after we had left the seller,so does this mean perhaps it was originally registered in '71 and taken out of UK and then returned in '74 or am I already getting confused!!!!!!!
Regards
Moe

It's quite possible that the tester didn't know what year it was, couldn't work it out correctly from the suffix, and just guessed. I certainly wouldn't worry about it. Look forward to seeing some pics.

"E" suffix chassis numbers are much later than 1971. Check to see which auto box you've got, chances are it's a 65 box, which if original means it can't be 1971. (Or tax exempt.)

Congratulations Moe..good to see you're finally sorted with your P6!

You probably know this, but check what the DVLA record says for a start...here..

DVLA Enquiry

Click Vehicle Enquiry, then enter Registration No. + Make

Well done again!

Worth checking the year of manufacture out as you won't pay road tax if it was made in 1971.

I went to see a P6 just north of Birmingham a while ago and was told that it was manufactured in 1971, but alas it was 1973.

Seller was telling me fibbies to make it sound a better buy

Thanks for the info Stan just checked and DVLA states date of first registration 08/04/1974.
Cheers
Moe :D

You need to know the date of manufacture, not the date of first registration.

Hi All
Hopefully ,I have got it right and attached some photo's of the new car.
Thanks to Richard, webmaster, and my sister-in-law for their help as I am a complete numpty at this ha ha.
Let me know if anyone knows the car and what you think
Regards
Moe

Looks a nice one

You could continue the matt/satin black on the sills along the bottom of the front wings for a quick/easy job and then it won't shout "new wings"

Looks very tidy Moe..and sunroof too!

Just a point..you may (or may not) get a problem at MOT time (or before) with the silver on black number plates. AFAIK they're OK for registrations up to December 1972.

Well done again!

Cheers,

Cheers,

You're right about that, although the MOT tester probably won't pick you up on it, "L" is the last letter that should be on those plates, (anything that is tax exempt) however Plod are now taking a more serious interest in any cars that are fitted with them and shouldn't be, because AFAIK they don't register on ANPR cameras, so get flagged up every time one passes because the camera can't see the number.

Nice looking car.

Thanks Harvey and Stan for the information on the plates I was totaly unaware of that,if the plod are are getting on the case I had better get the correct ones then. 8)

Hi Moe.
FWIW!! I honestly wouldnt worry about the plates!
Give the last owner a quick ring and see how long they have been on the car!
Its an old car and the police have no idea about the overly complex number plate laws!!
I know of an 'S' reg rover 3500 that has had "legal"!!! black and silver plates like yours and mine for its lifetime, and has never been stopped for it!
Its been the lady owners everyday car all this time!
The cops normally associate these plates with old cars ie 70's and older,if they spot a"modern" 80's+ then they may stop and advise about it!
There are more boy racers with pimped up corsa's and saxo's with real dodgy plates on than old cars with b/w plates for them to worry about!!
They have been legal way before the infestation of speed camera's,and will continue to do so!
The law relating to the making of plates is also totally screwed up!!
Mr MOT has no idea!!
As long as the plate is not blatantly illegal "font/spacing/anti reflective" they will pass it,as they have been advised there is a problem with the law relating to them!
Dave

I've been "nipped" for it twice first time in a 1972 Viva estate to which I put him in his place & secondly in a 1974 Magnum I pleaded ignorant to that one & just got the 14 day delayed prohibition which after you've put the right plates on you get it stamped by an obliging MOT station & produce it at your local nick. Did you all know commercials, buses & tractors can have black/silver up to I think 1985? but I would have to check the exact date
Regards Colin
