Congrats Richard

You've worked hard for that one!

offside top ball joint has play in it, although I replaced that last year

Did you pack the joint with grease before fitting it? I've just done both top and bottom balljoints on one side and the new ones were bone dry. Thanks to some advice from another forum member I had a wee look and packed them with loads of grease so hopefully they'll last a while......longer than a year anyway :D

Not been on here for a while, very busy at work. But still using the Rover every day. :)

It had developed a knock from the steering so I jacked her up and found the top join had gone, again. The one I fitted less than two years ago was an old new stock item so I guess it had dried out on the shelf, being one of the non adjustable ones was impossible to put new grease in when I fitted it..

So this time I got one from JHW, it's a little more than the eBay items but only a few quid more. Wow it's really well made and adjustable! Should last quite a few years. :)

Hi Richard,

what do you mean when you say adjustable?
The ball joints in my Austin for example are adjustable. You can undo the cap the holds the ball pin and remove shims from its base in order to take up the slack from wear.
Do you say that your new ball joint is like this? This would be a first for a P6 as far as i know.

Otherwise i do agree that "cheap" ball joints don't last more than a couple of years of normal use.

Yup, they are just the same as your Austin's, I thought the p6 had been originally made with them and the after market ones with out. Guess I was wrong. :)
