Is that a Wadhams D post repair panel? It looks to be a good fit.

I spent weeks knitting bits fabricated patches into a D post so it looks like money well spent.

Keep up the good work.

Do you think the rear window areas and tailgate are likely to be watertight? I'd be very curious if you had some pictures to see how the roof extension was done.

I'm definitely admiring the nice even heat marks on the edge of those patches. Welding is a skill which totally alludes me and it astonishes me anyone can knit such a rotten heap back together both at all and so quickly. Can't wait to her completed.

There can't be many P6s that are beyond salvation with skills like this.

i do hope the window area/tailgate will be water proof i will be seam sealing all the welded seams then a coat of stone chip then a coat of waxoil the side window is held in with silicon sealer so that should be ok and the tail gate will be getting new rubber seals after that i can only hope
i will try and remember to take some pictures of how the roof was connected when i next go to the car

yes the D post is from Wadhams the fit is great

the D post origonally on the car was nearly all filler so had to go
note the cheapest part at £135 but well worth it it the long run

Words almost completely fail me, I can only think of two words, car crusher :( I feel worn out just looking at the images  however I am glad that you are possessed of sterner stuff than me. Keep up the enthusiasm.

not a great deal hppening so far this week due to weather

and replace it with new section from Wadhams

couple of pictures of section removed then battery went flat so will upload new pics of the panel welded on tomorrow

i waited till i had the new panel in front of me so i could see how much of the last 40 odd tyears worth of repairs and bodges i could get shot of, thankfully nearly all of them have now gone.

I really hope this works out for you - spoken as an enthusiast who once let his heart rule his head and ended up with a shiny but utterly unroadworthy turd which ended up being written off in a crash.

Respect to you for taking this on but if it struggles to get a ticket, take the hint. My red 3500S nearly always walks its MOT but the green 3500 always struggled, failing every time and needing some bodge to sneak it through.

thanks for the concern, this is not my first restoration nor i doubt my last, i should be ok as i am an ex M.O.T tester and with my brother in law who runs his own garage help it will be done properly first time so as not to need bodges in the future, once all the welding has been done i will concetrate on the suspension, brakes and steering stripping checking and replacing/repairing as i go, the engine, gearbox and drivetrain next then the interior and lastly the body, the car may be on the road for a year or two before the respray depends how far the money stretches and what other problems i find along the way.

Good work, welding looks nice, not sure about the A-post. This is why I like P6 because they are very simple to do big repairs like this.

I also like the fact you are doing it outdoors, I did my first P6 round the back of my old house without cover. Working in the Garage now feels weird.

Wow ! I'm not a hat person , they don't suit me , but if i did i'd take it off to you ! Keep it up :D

a quick update of the work carried out this week
fitted new inner sill which went on the car so easily you would of thought it was a genuine panel rather than a reproduction,
also b/c repair panels went on not such a good fit as had to cut the strengthening end plates to fit, also had to make a repair setion for the bottom of the A post it's not pretty but its strong and the door and wing fit fine, still have to cut hole for jacking point.

Also fitted this week was the D post, what a complete and utter arse to make fit that was, if the top fitted the bottom didnt and if the bottom fitted the top didnt, so i cut off the bottom four inches along the bend line welded the top section in then the bottom section but had to put in a half in fillet for every thing to join up.
the door shuts with a click and the rear wing fits nice and the gaps between both are consistant with those on the drivers side.

finally today i fitted the new steps fornt and rear which fitted a treat if a little bit too wide but a quick zip with a cutting disc had the excess removed, groung all the welds down and added a skim of filler which was then sanded back for a smooth finish, i also finished off the rear inner wing to D post repairs to tidy everything up, i then seam sealed every welded seam ready for a couple of coats of stone chip tomorrow

fair play fella that's some serious surgery!

I;m just tackled the D post on my car using the full JRW post.... i will do anything possible to never have to do one again, mine didnt fit over the JRW supplied jacking post meaning the bit at the bottom has had to be cut out and will have to be remade.

its all a big learning curve for me as this is my first attempt at panelwork, it looks like your experienced in this area!

keep up the good work!

Gotta admire your dedication, especially when working outdoors. Looks like you have a bit of sunshine there though and that would never happen for long enough in this part of the world

Looking forward to seeing this take shape. I've got an original Rover outer D post to fit to my project eventually so it'll be interesting to see how well that fits.

Keep up the good work :D
