    The inheiritance. 1976 P6b

It's not a hard job to swap them out, only tricky bit is getting the bush compressed enough to get the split pin through the correct mounting hole. Mine were in the incorrect outer hole when i got the car and were mangled as a result. I enlisted the help of my partner who is ever cheery when...

    Bye Bye Rover. :(

Yep, alas much as I am very lucky to have a substantial garage in which to store toys it is unfortunately not a tardis and eventually something has to shift as my partner has explicitly forbidden the parking of cars on the front lawn as grounds for separation. :) In this instance the sale of...

    Front ball joint quality...?

I went with those on mine, fit was very tight on the lowers which I suspect contributed to the place I used to fit them butchering them, and the resultant failure. The uppers were absolutely fine and seem good quality. Quality on the lowers also seemed good in the joint itself, but just very...

    Bye Bye Rover. :(

Yep, her words were "I want it" and that was that, no tyre kicking or picking at faults and I'm sure she will enjoy it. Really hope to see it out and about in future, some cars you just get attached to more than others I think.

    Bye Bye Rover. :(

A sad day indeed, alas my apathy at having advertised the Rover for sale was not quite apathetic enough apparently and has elicited a buyer. As such, much as I was happy having the rumbley old brute around in the garage as long as he wanted to stay, someone else also wanted him too so he has...

    Badge Theft

It doesn't seem to be as common as it once was, don't see anything like as many badgeless cars getting about (apart from low spec looking Mercs and BMW that seem to lose their model designations with alarming regularity). A chap I was talking to a month or so ago at a show had just had the...

    Mirrors

Mine also had the big plastic monster of a thing, subsequently replaced with much nicer chrome ones. There's a white 2000 I see occasionally near home that I am pretty sure has small chrome bullet mirrors out on the front guards, look like they were designed for towing and no doubt fitted at...

    Classic Car Rescue........

I didn't think it could get any worse than this till I watched an episode of "Strippers, cars for cash"......... Words cannot describe the dreadfulness.

    What's your other car?

Here are mine, the daily drivers: And the more occasional cars: Then there's the Discovery for the muddy stuff: And finally, a $350 Ford Fairmont wagon we bought for a charity rally for the Cancer Council we are doing next year that is going to take us 4000KMs through the Australian...

    It's back!

Last time I saw this car in the metal at a show at Mornington the owner had just pulled out of a junction in front of someone and had a somewhat reshaped rear drivers side door. At least that seems to have been fixed.. :) It is a very nice original car, but I suspect it will be popping up for...

    Everyday Driver??

Not a daily by any means but I do try to run mine into the city and out and about a couple of times a month now it has a functional gearbox once more. It has no issues keeping up with Melbourne traffic, doesn't overheat and is generally quite docile for use when desired so could be turned to...

    Classic Car Rescue........

I got so fed up with the annoying bald moron's loudmouth braying I gave up and flicked through after the first 5 minutes. Utter garbage.

How to get more throttle travel?

Hey, Got a bit of an issue with my P6 where I can't get enough throttle travel to get full throttle, only getting about 75% I would think currently. I've tried adjusting the linkage up near the steering idler, but am either not getting it correct or there just isn't enough travel coming...

Shameless Charity Plug - Shitbox Rally

Hey All, Hope you don't mind me shamelessly plugging a charity fundraiser we are doing, since it's car related and could potentially end up being Rover related too I thought I'd post about it.. :) We have entered and been accepted into an event called the Shitbox Rally (In true...

What else to do whilst the engine is out?

Hey, Thought i may as well update this, ended up having my original box fully rebuilt and getting a new reconditioned torque converter too. The spare box I had turned out to be in a bit of a bad way itself so wasn't going to be great for re-use, the input splines being rather worn thin...

    Rover v8 note?

There's a pretty extensive thread with a load of clips of various v8 exhaust notes here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9161 Have a listen, interesting to hear the differences in them.

Rover P6B Swivel Pillar ball Joints

Let me know if you want another pillar to have a crack at Mike, I've got a couple kicking around behind the garage that I don't think I'll have a use for so you're welcome to one. Will still have their own joints in place so no guarantee they'll shift any easier but you never know.

Rover P6B Swivel Pillar ball Joints

Hey Mike, I had rather a lot of fun with my ball joints not so long ago too, the RCCA have got the lower ball joint puller available in their collection (I used theirs on mine to great effect) so i would suggest borrowing that would save you having another one made up. With regards having them...

    MAD POM

Not seen a bare chassis shot but here's one on the production line showing the transfer box arrangement: Would think that to get round the transfer box issue you could go with the TDV8 from the Land Rover but mated to the Jag version of the 6HP26 or 6HP28 rather than attempting the 8HP70...

    MAD POM

Have you considered the LandRover TDV8 lump? It's designed for a bit more of a conventional layout than the Audi yet is still pretty compact.

    manual conversion - toyota/supra gearbox into a p6b.

Don't know if the pedal box on the 4 cyl cars is the same but the TC up at the Centre Rd wreckers is a manual so you could prob grab it from that and stash it if they are.

What else to do whilst the engine is out?

Have spoken to a trans place that comes highly recommended and they have quoted me for a reconditioned torque converter and replacing the front and rear seals on my spare box. Going to drop it in to them over the next few days so they can get started, not sure if they will recondition this...

What else to do whilst the engine is out?

Yeah, "OE Short Spigot" is what's written on it. Will grab a better pic of it when i get it removed, need to get a slim spanner to get it unbolted. Going to do some phoning round trans places today to get someone to do the seals on the spare trans and a recondition of the converter.
