The recommended oil/filter change interval on these engines was not less than 6000 Miles (10,000km). They later extended that right out to 12,000 Miles (20,000km) for the 4.0 and 4.6 litre engines, which did them no favours at all. The dark oil colouring is a likely result, at least in part. Can't see any sludge evident which is a very good thing.
As Paul said, the coolant sediment is from the inlet manifold not having a corresponding port. This way the coolant must flow right through the head prior to entering the inlet manifold at the front of the engine.
