Winston.

Hi all,
As I have asked a few questions of late, and received some much appreciated advice in return, I thought I should let you know what you have been helping me on.
This is Winston (a great British bulldog), a 1976 P6B in excellent all round condition (I say that with consideration given to age and the usual suspects when it comes to these cars).

It is un-registered and in the process of complying with some licensing requirements, namely rear suspension bushes.
The car is rust free except for some surface rust behind the rear bumper where the paint has detiriorated. The interior is great except for some wear on the fur trim around the driver's side door. The car has spent most of its life in the Antipodes, namely Australia, so fortunately doesn't suffer from the usual wet weather related issues.

I'm new to the uploading of pictures so I hope these work out.

Hello Rover-tragic,

Looks a very nice car... :D Being a 1976 model, is yours fitted with charcoal cannisters? How many ks on the clock? That is an ususual relocation of the choke and fuel reserve tap.. :? Any ideas why that may have been done?

I am over in Sydney, so it's a long way to go to say G'day! but if ever you are over this way....

Ron.

Choke and reserve knobs are in the standard location for a car with factory style Air Con (as US 3500S NADA). There can't be many in Australia with that type of A/C - almost all Aus cars have locally sourced and fitted A/C? So a bit of a mystery how it came to be like that on yours. Perhaps it's one of the very last NZ assembled batch, where I could imagine all sorts of oddities arriving in the CKD case after UK production had ceased.

Something strange is also going on in the switch position to the right of the wiper switch. That normally holds a red push pull hazard flasher switch.

It looks like a hazard switch to me Chris. It's the barrel of the switch that is red, the knob on the front is black with a red triangle. I think you can just make it out.

Strange scale on the oil pressure gauge, my guess being it's kg/cm rather than lbs/in, to go with the kph speedo. Damn the accursed Metric system, it's the work of the Devil I tells ya! Looks a nice one.

I did see a NOS gauge like that on ebay some time ago. Believe they are calibrated in kg/sq. cm, which is almost the same as "bar". (1 kg/sq.cm. = 0.98 bar = 14.2 good old psi)

nice p6b, and looks like original period (circa 1976) number plate as well, keep them!, my parts car is a '76 and it too has the choke/reserve knobs at the side as the air con that was fitted was situated inplace of the passenger glovebox and the outlets ran accross the radio panel and neccessitated the relocating of the heater controlls as well, I have since removed it from my parts car and hope to plumb it in to my '74 at a later date, the parts car has the large york type compresser but I hope to fit a mobern type one sometime. so far i have shortened the vents so I do not need to alter any controls. Is your aircon an integrated type?

Hi Scott,
The car, believe it or not, is not actually fitted with any AC at all so I don't know why the choke is fitted on the side of the speaker grill. I have AC in the donor car but I don't think I will make the effort to fit it.

Hi all,
Been a bit busy with work etc., not had a chance for an update. Winston is now legal! He has had the required work completed and breezed through the inspection with many a "wow" and a "nice" from the inspector. Of course now that there is more driving being done you begin to notice the smaller things which I'm sure will give much ammunition for the forum.

Good health to all,
RT.

I was just thinking I couldn't see the AC controls, maybe a previous owner took it off. Very nice looking car glad to see she's now road legal. :)
