What's next at Lake View

The spreadsheets help loads, been struggling to get my head around your different cars!.

You pleased with the ZF box?

Me too and I own them. Tom struggles as well :D

Oh yes, I'm thrilled with it - if money were no object I'd source another one rather than move it from one car to another.

If you aren't sure on the hurricane cam isn't the 3.9i cam supposed to give more horses and torque but at lower rpm?

I'm enjoying reading this as it progresses, well done.

Thank you.

Ethel has a hurricane and it is excellent - pulls strongly to 4500rpm and beyond - great fun to drive without making it difficult around town.

I see there's a cyclone version at the same price but I'm sure there's a reason that's not being recommended - probably the same reason as when I was last shopping for camshafts and spotted one called "Ultimate Road" - luckily Tom got wind of this and warned me that the "Road" wouldn't be the streets of Manchester with a camshaft like that - it was really a racing camshaft in spite of the name.

10.5:1 engine to be installed into McFoo requires

camshaft viper hurricane DW262 On consideration I think this shall be a standard camshaft at half the cost - sorry McFoo
cam followers AZ794-16
cam sprocket chain kit AZ770
oil pump high volume kit AZ844
Piston rings DW884
Top end gasket set AZ884HC5
Bottom gasket set AZ884C
Rear crank seal AZ704

DDF requires

camshaft viper hurricane DW262
cam followers AZ794-16
cam sprocket chain kit AZ770
oil pump high volume kit AZ844
inlet manifold gasket CX7590
end seals CX2684 x2
water pump gasket CX1104
timing cover gasket CX2144

That shopping list comes to £703.73 with two viper camshafts.

Is that the price for both engines' parts? Not bad if it is. Now that I have sufficient funds I'm very close to ordering my own parts list for my 10.5:1 engine. very similar to yours but I'm adding bottom end bearings and ARP studs for the mains. Which supplier are you using for your parts?

I use Real Steel for my engines parts and yes, considering that is for two engines the price is reasonable. I should save on shipping too.

Good stuff. They're on my list of suppliers :D

Other retail food outlets are available.

That's true - I will shop around. Rimmer Bros for a start - I've ordered plenty from them in the past and if I settle on a standard camshaft for The Blue McFoo, Rimmer is much cheaper than Real Steel.

I love the stance of the one on the left, it's amazing how much lowering by a couple of inches, and fat tyres, improves the look of the P6.

Thank you.

I had a late wobble during the project and said I wanted standard springs and suspension and steel wheels.

I'm glad that Tom from Lake View twisted my arm back after I'd changed my mind after originally agreeing to the upgrade - she looks fantastic and the ride quality is awesome without spoiling any of the character of the P6 - it's still a P6. There are some other well documented tweaks and mods which similarly fail to detract from the character.

The car on the right will never win prizes for looks but I can tell you all that she's a real lady of a car. She's also the standard car I always craved.

Since you enjoy the luxury of playing with multiple P6s, you are doing the right thing of keeping standard and modified examples.
I would do the same if i could.

I had very good experiences on engine parts with JRV8 (Jim Robinson). I bought a 4ZF box + engine parts from him and Also good experiences with V8 tuner.
I once bought an overhaul kit for a SD1 LT77 from Rimmer Bros and wasn't so happy with the quality of the bearings. These were not from the large bearing manufacturers like SKF ect and showed unregular and sharp edges to the roller cages. The people in the smaller compagny's in general have more knowledge.

Thank you. I have sent an enquiry to a couple of other suppliers, including these two. I don't want to end up with a logistics nightmare with lots of orders from different suppliers.

Spirito de Lil

The cylinder block has gone to the engineering shop to have the broken front cover bolt removed and will be back at Lake View early next week, just in time for the arrival of the engine parts.

The garage will need one McFoo, preferably blue, midweek.

I've tried to soften the impending blow by affixing a Lake View windscreen sticker this afternoon.

If I didn't know it already, the state of windscreen said that old McFoo is a veteran of many shows, rallies and events by the amount of plastic I had to scrape off the inside of the windscreen with a razor blade before affixing the Lake View sticker - a close-up of the garage's distinctive Art Deco sign that I printed on my inkjet.

Only Ethel awaits her Lake View sticker - Tom was delighted when he first saw the sticker on Hildegarde - he was probably less pleased to see it on Daffodil given his history with the car but Daffodil is very much a Lake View car with the amount of time recently invested in the car - i.e. all that welding and many hours of troubleshooting work.

Tom has to remove the engine, gearbox and various other bits and pieces from the Blue McFoo, replacing the engine with the newly overhauled Lil engine and Chewbacca's gearbox.

The Blue McFoo will have the engine, seats, interior, dashboard, seatbelts and even the hubcaps of Lil, the car whose demise has indirectly triggered this Roverlanche at Lake View Garage. Hildegarde has the rest of Lil, near enough - Daffodil has Lil's wheels and tyres.

Tom then has to diagnose and fix the problem with the engine that he has just removed from the Blue McFoo. This will almost certainly be piston rings but we aren't sure what this engine is - Tom's never looked closely at it and he has never driven the car. When I told him that the McFoo is at least as quick as Ethel, he said that could mean that the engine is a 3.9 litre.

Whatever it is, it needs to be repaired and installed along with the ZF gearbox into Hildegarde, who will have awoken from her 4 month slumber in a lockup garage and driven to Lake View in readiness for the show season.

Then Daffodil can have her much needed engine repair and camshaft upgrade.

Then Ethel gets the springs and suspension upgrade and the respray that I've been promising since March 2013.

I ordered and paid for my parts yesterday - I ended up ordering from Real Steel because they were £110 cheaper than the only only other outfit that got back to me with a quote.

I dropped the Blue McFoo off at Lake View late last night - I'll soon have her back with a refreshed engine (standard camshaft - sorry McFoo), Borg Warner BW35, steel wheels and a new set of tyres.

Update - excellent service from the Uxbridge Aussies - parts arrived at Lake View this morning.
