Hi all,as some of you all know,i have aquired another p6,its a 1973L 3500 auto in mexico brown with bronze leather flatpleat interior,it was dry stored for 11 years and is still in preety good shape.i nearly have it ready for an mot.I am going to get it painted by Clive, but i really dont know what colour to go for, whether to keep it mexico or completly change it and go for monza red, cameron green,or corsica blue, obviousley will have to change the interior if i change the colour, but the interior is really good, what do you all think? :D :D :D

Hi bri,
Mexico for me too, with a new paint job it will look the business regardless of colour :D

Hi Bri,

Too many Monzas IMHO. Monza is to P6s as Gunmetal Grey is to allllll classic Jags - just the colour of the moment.
I'm halfy-halfy about Cameron green - Arden is so much nicer, but doesn't suit the S2.
Corsica is lovely and so underrated. I think most people just think it's primary-school poster paint blue, but it has a lovely hue that doesn't show up in the photographs. It would go with the interior nicely too.
But Mexico is a great colour, so unless you're totally committed to changing to something else, I'd stick with what the factory intended. It's lovely and rich and if you look around at club meets, you'd be surprised just how few proper brown P6s are left!

Hiya Bri.
In order to keep the interior the same the period correct colour choice is limited.
If it were mine I would go for 1st choice Monza or Cameron!!
Mexico with bronze is way to much brown,if it were buckskin,"creamy" then mexico works, and a nice bronze leather interior needs a contrasting paint to show it off at its best.
Blue and bronze???? MMM???? again its not factory and doesnt work for me.

I think you should stick with the mexico brown, as I really like it as a colour on a series 2. Some mexico browns look quite different to others though. I'm a big fan of the darker shades seen on some of them. After Mexico, I'd choose corsica, but it'd really need black leather to look right.

Bronze was an interior colour choice for all 1972/3 colours, except Corsica Blue. It was also listed for Paprika from 1974/5 and for Avocado, Pendelican and Turmeric from the end of 1975.

Therefore, you wouldn't necessarily have to change the interior colour to keep within a wide range of Rover combinations, although it might not be technically correct for the model year.

What sort of respray are you thinking about; I would stick with Mexico if it was anything other than a full respray, door shuts etc., otherwise Avocado, Paprika and Turmeric are quite unusual P6 colours and, IMHO, all suit the car. Many years ago friend of mine had a Paprika 3500S and I always thought it stood out, either amongst other P6s or parked alongside my Cameron Green one. I like the Avocado ones as well (as long as they are clean and well polished), although I know many think it's an acquired taste.

I did look at a secondhand Stag where the original owner had had the car resprayed when it was new (all documented), from Saffron (I think that's the correct name) to white, because of delivery delays etc etc.; they didn't do a proper job, so it was still the original colour under the bonnet (not a P6 issue, I accept), inside the boot etc. It just didn't look right and didn't do the car justice. He must have been really keen to get his hands on a Stag, that's all I can think.

What colour do YOU really want to paint it. If need be, you'll have to rig the vote

I'd say stick with Mexico, but have a look at one with Rostyles to help make your mind up. They really set it off. Big-dish hubcaps don't in my view. If you're sick of it, I'd say go with green for the sake of the interior.

I'm split... my dad's S was Mexican Sewage, so I have a certain liking for the colour, but it's really not that nice! If you like brown, how about Tobacco Leaf, or vaultsman's formerly Caramac colour? Otherwise, you should consider something unusual, like black... or P5 Admiralty Blue/Jaguar Midnight Blue (pretty much the same thing) - Rudiger Wicke has a few examples on his website. Here's one:

Nice alloys too...
http://www.roverp6.info/Fotos/3500 V8 61-XK-08/61_XK_08.htm is the one I was looking for, much discussed on this forum.

There are a few other unorthodox-looking colours on that site, too - a deep purple (http://www.roverp6.info/Fotos/Unbekannt/Deutschland/b1846.jpg), an outrageous pink (Triumph Magenta?) and the odd nice dark red which I like the look of. Arden Green looks better on S2s than you'd think, too - as does Burnt Grey. I also quite like Paprika, and Saffron is a wonderful colour. I'm surprised there wasn't a lurid hi-vis lime green in the range - there certainly should have been!

Alternatively, how about chrome-plating it?

Mexico brown doesn't look good if the paintwork is allowed to fade, but kept gleaming it looks really smart.
As a teenager I was always greatly impressed by the Mexico/Huntsman/boot mount spare with Huntsman cover/Bronze interior/Rostyles 3500 owned by a neighbour of one of my good mates. I believe the gentleman's name was Mr Clegg, of Highgate Village. Anyway, whenever I saw him rumble out of his garage and set off I always thought his car looked absolutely terrific, elegant and understated, and always immaculately presented.
To be honest I don't think I would have a P6 in another colour repainted in Mexico, but would definitely stick with Mexico rather than change to another colour. For what it's worth, which isn't a jot really. A dark copper bronze metallic could look nice though...

Avocado was pretty lurid, though not hi-vis.
As it's a professional paint job, I say stick with Mexico Brown too. Like any other dark colour it's unforgiving of small blemishes so can be a struggle for DIY sprayers to get a good finish, but Clive won't have that problem.

Mexico for me too Brian, but I'm with Pilkie on the interior. Bronze is not anough of a contrast. Mine is sandalwood.

Well thanks for the huge response, like a few of you have said, mexico is nice aslong as its kept polishd, idealy i wantd it to be cameron green or monza, but to keep the car original i think i should keep it mexico,i agree wil dave and pilkie on the interior but thats how it came fron the factory so i think it has got to stay, wat colour should i paint the sills?black or huntsman, same with the cover for the spare wheel? And the vinyl quarters?they are black at the moment, thanks

Hi Bri . I think mexico is like almond , got to keep it shining and have the right accessorys , wheels , boot mount , etc . Mine has really grown on me , and it'll stay as it is perfect ( done by Clive in 2003 ) But my best color is cameron green . If i was doing it that would be the color .
