Very cheap 2000 project

oh yes you were right :!: it is a great project and im cracking on with it, the engines now rebuilt by myself and ive got the bonnet, boot, front and rear wings and scuttle panel in primer, i had to source s/hand wings as the originals were scaby, i removed the sills and its absolutely solid ! no rot at all, the interior is amazing, i need to get some photos but keep forgetting, ive bought 7 liters of cellulose paint to try and keep that original look and not that over shiny 2k look :D

oh yes to me (probably because i grew up in the back of one  ) the series one 2000 is always going to be "the one " :D

By "grew up" do you actually mean "was conceived"?

lol bet the rear was well tested then. lol, I love 4 pots because I grew up in them dad had 3 in a row. I learnt to drive in one. so many good memories of 4 pots
marcus :D

Quick update, I've got it moted, I've fully repainted it, rebuilt the engine and brakes, the documents have been sent to Swansea to reclassify the tax class to historic, I've been driving it on trade plates and I love it ! Pulls good and at 42k miles drives so nice and smooth with no noises at all, she's a keeper ! Very happy, I know I keep promising but I will get some pics up now I've revived my photo bucket acct :D

Well another update to this car.

I purchased this lovely Arden green 2000 from Geoff, as he was selling off a number of classics that he owns to buy bigger business premises. Since September of last year the car has had the following work;

a) Engine rebuild, including bearings, piston rings, top /bottom chain and tensioners, side plates, seals and gaskets
b) Baseunit steam cleaned, small amount of welding on the boot, undersealing
c) Good second hand bonnet and four panels and a full respray. The smallest details were seen to and rubbers replaced
d) Car was missing some parts including, the rad, grill, bumper irons and bumper, all replaced
e) Fuel system flushed
f) New brake master cylinder, rear brake hoses and pads all round
g) Stainless steel exhaust fitted

I bought the car last weekend and although it drove ok on the test drive, the front brakes began to seize so I had it trailered back.

This week I have begun and almost finished (are they ever finished?) this project.

Having made several trips to WINS, I have fitted new front brake callipers, front brake hoses, pads and a recon brake servo.
I have removed the ball joint covers to check the condition of the grease and sprayed some extra in, before refitting the gaiters.
The cooling system was flushed, as it had red antifreeze in - now has blue!
The gearbox oil has been changed and the final drive checked.
The slack has been removed from the steering box and a 1/4 of a litre of EP80/90 added :D

Having checked extensively under the car - It has had a full suspension rebuild at some point, the bushes, springs, shocks and de dion are still like new at the rear. The baseunit is in excellent order and original, inner sills and under the rear seats are mint. A little welding to the boot floor.

I revisited the original ebay ad again, I would guess by the condition of the car, that it was someones cherished P6 that was involved in a light accident and parked up in a dry garage for 20 years.

Right, now for some pictures

This is what the car looked like last summer and how it looks now!

Very nice indeed. It's really excellent to see how far the car has come in such a short space of time. It does help to have a rot-free body.

Looked like it had a lot of potential when it first appeared, but it looks brilliant now, and wasn't ridiculously priced either! :D
Love the colour combination, and the look of it being so unmessed with. Lovely car, and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it!

The previous guy did a lot of hard work too it, either himself or the company he owns.
I am just finishing it off.. I would reckon in parts and time (paying someone else to do the work) it has consumed way more money than I paid from the guy that got it for £300 off ebay....
I have just spent £500 with WINS in recon brake parts to rebuild the front brakes and replace the servo etc

It was cheap when it was first on ebay... I would have paid more than £305 for that interior alone! But if you are not doing all the work yourself, it becomes very very expensive!
