Unadjustable steering play

Glad you got it sorted :)

Really interesting to see the pics of the inside of the steering box. I must confess that i've not even fully understood worm and ball steering yet... I'm sure it'll get my attention at somepoint though :)

Only half a white knuckle, not tighten it up till it strips then back off a quarter turn....
I do helicopters for a living, so I hear you there.

For anyone who is interested, here are some pictures of the inside of your power steering box!

Is this the power steering box of a 3500 V8? because I have a problem, the steer do nothing on the wheels, I just can turn it, but I feel some resistance and wheels do little. when jack up the car the wheels do a lot more because it is of the floor.

I did see that the old owner was busy with it, but seem not to now what is wrong, I have the original workplace books so I can remove it and look, Th adjustment screw in the middle was also loosened until the end. that make problems.

I go remove the aluminium top and look in it what is there but will see not much then I think.

Se need repair it and new seals set.

I have got around half to three quarters of an inch of play in my steering at the steering wheel rim. I have power steering, and I have previously stripped and rebuilt the steering box to replace the seals. There was no signs of wear internally. Regardless of what I do to adjust the steering box, the play remains the same. The steering does appear to get tighter and looser with changes in adjustment however. I have looked at the steering UJ and this seems fine. The only other thing I can think of is the cotterpin attachment of thre UJ to the steering box. If this is loose or the cotter pin is not seating properly, this could give the impression of unadjustable play. I want to be sure that this is possible as it is a steering box removal job to sort it out!

I was just wondering if anyone has ever bumped into this before?

Well it is also possible to loose steer completely like mine did.

I did buy tha car this way. The cotterpin was broken, and I need a new one, however I can find nowhere, and a bike cotterpin is to big.

Can make one with the lathe, but it needs hard steel. Cotterpin is sometimes bad placed by factory, and break after a while because of eating away
material when steering, that is the play you have.

Zomebody now where to find a pin? or maybe someone has one here, just small enough for a normal post letter.

regards
