Tobacco leaf paint

Hi all. I'm painting my series 1 and have found a paint code 26637. Painted the rear decker panel and it looks nice apart from when I put another panel next to it, the colour is a lot different. I've painted a bit of the rear pillar cover and hopefully I can put a photo on. Does anyone else have a paint code? Cheers.

If you mean the original colour is different to the new/fresh shade that just may be down to the age of the original paint... It'll be bleached by the sun and dulled by pollutants causing it to differ very much from how it was when it was sprayed in the factory... Is that what you mean?!

I thought it might be that, but I wet sanded a bit and it's still the same. When I Google it, I see some cars my colour. And some the new colour. I'm wondering if it changed for the series 2? I'll take it to a paint shop and get a match.

I remember the painters at the Main Stealer had various shades of the same colour available to get the best match, so there must have been different shades as that was back when the cars were new.

The new colour looks nice, but I know I'll be at a show and I'll be asked what colour it is and an argument will ensue. Lol

The best place to get colour match is in a door-shut or such like... Basically the best place to get a (sort of!) accurate colour match is from a patch of paintwork that has pretty much been hidden from the elements...

Uh oh! Warren in New Zealand will be waking up soon and a thread on Tobacco Leaf will surely make his day...

My car appears to have been repainted at some point in it's life - at the very edges of the roof there is evidence of a the newer paint job, with the original colour seemingly a lighter shade of Tobacco Leaf.

I recently went to my local paint store and just ordered a pint of Tobacco Leaf - I didn't have the paint code but I had been to the Sherwin Williams Automotive Paint Store and they had it in their database. I didn't buy from SW as I wanted a few different colours and for some nonsensical reason they couldn't mix all the colours for sale in California. I ended up going to a different store and giving them the list of SW's colours which they happily mixed up for me :? I had a choice between single stage and base coat/clear coat - I chose base/clear as it's a little more forgiving.

I spent this last weekend, prepping, priming, filling, base coating, clear coating and colour sanding a spare front wing - I want to see how I like the colour over the next few weeks/months.
I needed tea and moonshine to see me through the colour sanding.
The end result is definitely a different shade to the rest of the car.

If you wait a bit Warren will be along and can share some photos of his car - we have been comparing my newly painted wing to his car and it seems that they both match. Warren's Brown Rover seems to have a "creamy" element to the colour and as much as it pains me to say it, it makes Tobacco Leaf seem quite good - in fact, were it not for seeing Warren's car I would have ruled out TL for mine even though it's the original colour.

On the other hand, the paint chart in this thread makes TL seem much darker

Cool. I was going to change to a blue or green, but when you see it cut and polished it looks great.

Tobacco Leaf is a really classy colour that suits the P6's lines wonderfully...

I think that the shade that you've freshly sprayed is pretty much spot on and a full respray in that colour would look devine!

I wish I still had my Tobacco Leaf brute...!!!

It was a lovely looking car Harvey, I regret selling it I must admit!

Tobacco Brown is a great shade and is just perfect for the P6's lines...

That is the correct shade - Chewbacca is that colour where the paint isnt discoloured...

It does suit it, especially with the chrome. Thanks so cal v8 for putting the pics on and convincing me.

Sorry guys, late to the party! Been avoiding the internet so far this weekend. My car was stripped to bare metal and resprayed in '99, so I can't entirely discount a minor mismatch between the original colour and the new paint. However it always looked right to me. After the 2011 touch-ups, my painter pal gave me a tin of leftover paint marked "Khaki Grau + 9229". He told me not to lose that code...

I think all these photos are elsewhere on the forum, but here they are again as an example of just how tasteful and elegant Tobacco Leaf is.

That totally settles it Warren. Really nice.

That's better, I blame Warren for my own decision to think about, considering, possibly, maybe painting my car TL - he keeps putting up pictures of his car looking nice and shiny.
