Tobacco leaf 3500

Last december I bought a 1975 P6 3500 automatic in Tobacco leaf. The MOT was expired but it was driveable.
A few weeks ago I have started to get it ready for MOT.
The parking brake did not work and when I investigated it turned out the brake pads were very worn so I have changed these. Such a nice job to do.....:(
The next problem I have is that when the car has been running for a while, it stops because it is not getting enough fuel. There is a transparent fuel filter in the fuel line to the carbs and there is hardly getting fuel through after a few minutes. I have not a clue at the moment why this happens.

You could have a pump that is tired and failing as the engine warms up, or the lines to the pump could be partially clogged and restricting free flow.

I'd remove the line before the pump and give it a squirt of compressed air to clear it back to the tank, but keep the pressure down to avoid damage. Then, try again and see if there is a change. If there is, then your tank needs cleaning out.
If not, then the pump is next in line for scrutiny.

Also, check the reserve tap is set to it's correct travel and not half between the 2 positions, restricting flow.

Thanks for the tips John.
I have tried the reserve tap and it was not completely in the right position. I hope this was the problem but did not have time yet for a test drive.
Hope to do that this week. I will keep you posted.

I had a similar problem when I first got my Ser 1 V8. It turned out to be nothing more serious than an old fuel filter, which was replaced & the car ran well straight after.

In the end it was the reserve tap causing the problem.
At the end of August I have got him MOT´d and did some 180 mls without any problems.
