hello all.
i've just had a welder round to do an extensive job on 2 p6's and wondering about water leaks.
where are the commonest water leaks coming from please?
the bulkhead had to be welded beneath the heater box on both so i want to prevent this again so where is the water coming in |?
also i have leaks at the back as well which i notice for the carpets are out.(the leaks are in the car but yes i do use the garden as a loo occasionally too!)
So where am i looking to stop the water penetrating please?
cheers j

The lower windscreen rubber can be a major culprit in rot in the heater box and around it.

Water runs down the screen and into a channel in this rubber which directs it sideways and away from the rear of the engine bay. If it is broken, the water drips into the sound proofing around and under the heater where it sits and does its business. Also check around the top of the screens, both of them, and check the integrity of the steel around the boot, under the rear scuttle and the the rubber seal around the petrol cap.

Any rot in the sills will allow water in which can run up and down and rot them from the inside out.

At the complete opposite end of the car (but probably still worth a mention), check the rear inner wheelarches for holes which let water into the back seats.
I check beneath my back seats every time I hoover/nourish leather and a few weeks ago discovered an absolute lake! Got the hose out and blasted everywhere underneath. The source was a small hole where the D-pillar meets the inner wheelarch. There is a big thick seam which comes to a triangular [weak] point. Water can easily collect there and kick off the rot. It seems that a stone or a rough road has dislodged some Quiksteel stuck in there by a previous owner, and water was rushing into the cabin and covering all of the floors on the passenger side (underlay was utterly destroyed!). A good load of weather sealant and some more quiksteel has sorted it now (hole was only 5p size), but the damage could have been a lot worst if left!!

Watch out!

Michael
