Maybe Dave - but it must be up to 10 Billion by now.

Having spent 23 years in the armed forces it's nowhere near that. Besides, that money has been spent over the last 10 or so years and the money all comes from the defence budget anyway which is allocated for just such an event as we are fighting in Afghanistan. Now bankers bonuses over the last one year must be close to your figure and everything else pales into insignificance in the face of that.

"The cost to British taxpayers of fighting, diplomacy and reconstruction in Afghanistan and Iraq since the 9/11 attacks passed £20 billion, official figures reveal. "

"This includes £18 billion for military operations, on top of the normal defence budget, as well as hundreds of millions of pounds on aid and security for UK officials."

You can put Scotland up for sale on e-bay after you have handed all that North Sea oil back :p

Mind you if we go down that route, I would have to hand my P6 back before we sealed the border! No chance - long live the Union :D

Anyway, we could save money by cutting the number of MPs and other politicians by 50%, rasing their retirement age....... oh and scrapping their final salary pension scheme.

Blydi Saeson! (Bloody English folks!) If I, a Welshman, had been at the helm, there would be none of this crisis! Everyone would toe the line, or else face the harsh penalty! :p

High time that Wales invaded England and took control!!!! Fyny a'r Cymry, lawr a'r Saeson! :p

I know that when we were in Iraq a few years ago, the cost of white fleet vehicles was US$1m per week as all of the white fleet - non-military vehicles that we were using in addition to the military ones. Mostly Land Rover Discoverys.. great cars, but a waste of taxpayers money..

send them back to germany... or sell them to some american tourists. They can live next to the last incarnation of london bridge out in the desert... Would save a little money on the civil list...

hi guys,
anyone mentioned the nhs?
i was told at the weekend that 10%of the nhs bill goes on diabetics.
is this right?
it was a diabetic who told me?

Admin people and other people who "add value" to services without actually doing anything except eating up organistional budgets.......................mmmmmmmmmmmm.

Reminds me of Hitch Hikers' Guide to the Galaxy - when the Earth was doomed they had 3 space ships. One for all the clever/important people, one for the workers and one for all the useless types.
Needless to say, the last one was sent off on a totally different course from the first two :D

you have to remember that to make cuts to admin they'd have to start a new cuts for admin department..... would need about 3000 highly skilled civil servants by my reckoning....

At this precise moment in time I won't hear a bad word about the NHS, my treatment has been exceptional, all the nurses etc have been fantastic and very hard working, they all do 12 hour shifts, mixed between days and nights, must be like having permanent jet lag !

I know some of the medication I am having is extremely expensive, so I'm extremely gratefull for the whole system.

However I'm sure there will be fat in the system.

The workers at the "sharp end" are wonderful
There's just so many managers and they still need consultants to do their work for them
