Hi arthuy, I bought the rover from ebay at the beginning of June, the seller in greenback sold it to someone near girvan and I bought it off him. He had 11 other cars (some nice stuff, lotus Cortina, genuine tr8) and needed space he said. With hindsight I think he realized what he had and wanted rid!
It started life as a tc but has been converted to an sc at some point. It was most definitely a spur of the moment buy, I had an empty lock up and I've always fancied one of ese. The drivers floor/sill area is pretty bad, someone spent more time bodging it than it would have taken to do it properly, same side at the rear under the seat is a bit iffy too where it joins the sill, fortunately the near side looks solid. Mechanically it is leaking oil from front and rear seals and ran a bit rough when I viewed it, the seller replaced the carb float but didn't set it up properly (he gave me the old one as proof), once this was done it didn't help much. A compression test showed zero on number one so I am fairly certain the head gasket has failed. The interior has had colour change as some of the black vinyl pieces have been sprayed from brown, the trims on the b pillars are still brown. The seats are box pleat orange with black head rests, gold carpet and a red parcel shelf! Not sure if this is 70s BL use what we have policy in force or just a miss mash. Interior is very clean regardless. Almost no rust on the outside, wings look fresh all round except one, boot floor is solid although it has been re sprayed in the original ivory white. It came with 15 previous owners on the v5, a Haynes manual and a couple of old mots( think the last one might be a bit soft given the rust in the floor!!), no other history unfortunately.
I also have a triumph herald so not sure how long I plan on keeping it, mot runs out in December so once the head gasket is done I will start on the welding and see what else it needs for a new ticket.
Oh well, we live and learn!
