Starsky gets a new hutch.

I've just bought Starsky, Dagenham Rover's 2000TC with the kitsch 70's paint job:

I haven't removed the sill covers yet, but so far signs are favourable on the base unit front, making a return to the road a not too difficult possibility. The starter turns, but I've only flashed it quickly just to check. She'll need fresh petrol from a can to get going I would think though there are apparently non-starting niggles to overcome. The rear brakes are binding a bit so I'll need to get under there. There's no fluid in there so I'll re-rubber the master & see what happens when I bleed the system. Maybe the rear calipers won't leak....hope over adversity as Harvey puts it.
Assuming she hits the road again, the paint job will stay as is. There are enough standard looking cars to allow room for such a unique paint job & I'll also keep the rusty marks that have appeared all over the place via the fact that the paint job wasn't the best. A sort of rat rod, daily hack style. The front offside wing is f***ed, so I might even go as far as repainting another wing to match.

The stereo system I like very much:

There's no power getting to it at the moment so I don't know if it's all wired in yet. Four very nice Goodmans speakers too so I reckon it'll sound pretty good when I do get it going.
The interiors well servicable but I'll probably be in the market for a pair of half-decent footwell carpets as long as I don't find the floor's not fixed to the sills that is, so if you have some then let me know.

A graphic equaliser with flashing LED display, 8 track and early digital radio/cassette- a real classic audio system

I love the way the console is straining to hold the 8 track, I can just imagine it being fitted..... "Arrrggghhh get in ya bugger......"

It would take a very brave man to keep that red stripe on it now !

p.s. What no CB ??

I'm brave enough for a 70's icon paint job.

I think it's brilliant. I wouldnt put that on a car unless it was absolutely begging for it, but if it was like that i'd enjoy it.

If you had a delorean, you'd have to fit a Mr fusion and a flux capacitor. If it was a big 70s american ambulance you'd have a ghostbusters sign. It's good stuff!

Definitely need to get a flashing blue light on a mag-mount that you can run off the cigar lighter socket :D . I do love that proper retro sound system though. Do you have any funk or soul music 8 track tapes?
What's the history of the paint job? Does it date back to the 70s?

That's why it's so great....it's kitsch....like the paint. Apparently, the original owner had it done back in the day so that if the car got nicked it would be easily identifiable by the police. And I assume Starsky & Hutch was a current programme on thje box, it was very popular back then. I think I may even go a step further with the design & paint a pair of rear pillar panels red to fit, as they're still standard black at the moment & break the red stripe between the roof & the body. I'd need a pair of S1 panels preferably.
And I'm more into Zappa & Eno than soul or funk I'm afraid. It's contemporary sounds for the era though.

I think it would look good if you painted it up to current plod colours then as you say if it got nicked it would stand out like dogs b*lls.

Superb stuff seeing pictures of it!

I really hope you manage to get it back up and running soon. Its pretty mental in the console area isn't it? The first time i looked at that i think i said "what the f**k.....thats quality" or words along those lines!

Not been on too much recently due to a pretty major change in personal circumstances which have cemented my already growing feeling that I need to downsize as I have too many cars & too much related paraphenalia. The fact that I don't have the time to give all the cars the attention that they need coupled with the fact that it's all in rented storage, some of which I recently lost leads me to surmise that most of it has to go, as to lose all my storage at once would be a major pain in the ar*e, to say the least.
To that end I think I'll be passing Starsky on untouched, so if anyone is interested then let me know. She won't be expensive.
I'll be keeping a couple of cars, namely Bruiser (which seems to be the one everyone else wants to buy...sorry  ) & Emily, my P5B as after 26 years she's my longest-term partner, but the rest will be going I think. Any interest in the other cars can be registered by PM. I'd like to be getting as many of them at least roadworthy & MoT'd to maximise their potential market value, but if any of you want to know more about any of them then feel free to get in touch.
I'll duplicate this post in the 'for sale' section too if the Webmaster has no objections to that, as it's pretty general at the moment, but it will be happening.

Not done too much on the downsizing front as yet, but thanks to a few swift &......is "tender" the right word?......ministrations from Harvey, Starsky is now a runner on the engine front. Not quite 'on the button', a little rear carb fettling being needed, but when running it don't sound half bad at all. :D

Nice one. When you're happy with it you'll have to post a video in the exhaust note thread.

Sounds good to me! Considering how long that had been lying arond without running, that didn't take very long at all did it?.....
