Speed-limiting cars!

Happy New Year to one and all. But IMHO schemes like this..

Speed-limiting cars

..if adopted, will make it more difficult to have one! For my 5-pen'orth it's yet another example of the creeping nanny state, and I sign up to the views expressed here..

Limiters

What does everyone think?

Another non story, much like the "Brussels is making our cucumbers straight". Ignore it, will never happen. I'm sure was voice some years ago and the police were against it on safety grounds.

Just the government trying yet again to make it look like they are trying to make the roads safer, when all they are really doing is forcing more control measures onto the motorist.

In my opinion this will cause more accidents and deaths on our roads as it will cause more frustraion.

You will be stuck behind slow moving traffic more as you cannot safely overtake which will cause more congestion.

More congesiton means the government can charge you more for driving your car.

You can bet that some MPs will be making a good rake off from this somewhere too.

Just like the back dating of road tax for larger engine cars when the Tory MP Tim Yeo used his casting vote as chairman of the all-party Environmental Audit Select Committee to push through a report, which backed the decision by Alistair Darling, the Chancellor, that new, higher rates of vehicle excise duty (VED) rates should apply to previously-purchased cars.

and

He is paid £40,000 a year as non-executive chairman of Eco City Vehicles Plc, a company which plans to market a hybrid car which would qualify for low rates of VED under the new tax regime, due to its low carbon emissions.

There will be some rake off somewhere which will cost the country, whose economy has already been destroyed by these idiots, several billion pounds to impliment. The 'pay as you drive' option which they are still pushing for will cost upwards of £50 billion to impliment. That's more money than it would cost to replace every motorway in Great Britain!

If they have that much money, they should get rid of 90% of speed cameras, drop all of this nonsense with hugely expensive intrusive spying on us and put the police cars back on the road!

Statistics show that speed isnt the main cause of death on the roads!
Its the totally uncaring idiot behind the wheel who thinks he is a driving god !!
Any way they couldnt enforce the classic car owner to retrofit an electronic speed limiter device!
It would be for new production cars, IF???? it ever happens!! Which I cant see happening!!

If the bods in the gov't were directors of a global company!
It would be going bust, and they would giving themselves MASSIVE bonuses or getting payoffs and be sacked for incompetence!!
WHY??? Cant the british public SACK this gov't!????
I wish there was some way the public could petition the Queen to let her know we are totally "PI##ED OFF",fed up with the current incumbants, and it would be in her own best interests to have a new year clearout of deadwood, and start afresh with somewone else! ANYBODY ELSE!!!
I am not affiliated to any one party, but will support good, sensible ideas by whoever puts them forward!!
Maybe its time to let the Liberals have another bash??
As the Lab and Cons have been messing up for a few years!!!
Or maybe we need a change in how power is voted in and shared out!!
By PR ?? A COALITION GOV'T MAYBE!!!

Personaly,..I feel that the government are trying to make private motoring such a cr*ppy experience, that we start abandoning our cars and using overpriced and unreliable public transport, :(

Another worry is that over reliance of any gadget fitted will lead to complacency and loss of skills behind the wheel.
It wasn't that long ago our esteemed government wanted to fit speed limiters to motorcycles to cut the accident rate,.....as if , the majority of crashes are caused by the users inexperience or failure to read the road conditions,

Here is a website that might be of interest http://www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/

Hi all i would like to say that anything that slows down the ever speeding and faster and faster idiots that drive on our roads is welcome to me, a car is a very deadly weapon and if joe public cannot control its self then they will find ways to it for us.I drive down motorways daily at 70 mph and im passed by everyone even granny on her weekly drive out and unless people control there speeds they will do it for us.
just a point i like you dont agree with the idea but i do agree with speed cameras and think thats all we need and point out to drivers that speed limits are for a reason
happy new year to you all

I would agree with speed cameras if, and only if, they were there to save lives.

My experience has shown me that they are there to collect money and provide power to people who cannot get it any other way.

I spent a great deal of time and energy looking into these things, and other things the government has forced onto us, only to find that the whole industry is based on corruption and lies. I put a huge web site together with the truth of this industry but it was somehow taken down.

This is a small fragment of what it used to be - www.witlessandswindle.me.uk

There was a decline in road deaths in this country until speed cameras were introduced. The decline levelled out and in some places is now rising.

So, much money is being made, the wrong people are still being targetted, power is being abused, and many people who should be alive today and resting in peace.

Hi as i say to the guys that drive my vans if you dont want a speeding ticket then drive at the speed limits , if we all drove at the speed limits they would not collect the fines and they would not get our money we get to keep it. easy really people have the power to change things if they worked together but we brits are not very good at that so goverments win.

Hi all.

The British public should learn a lesson from how the French public and industries kick off when their gov't tries it on with them!! Its called people power, and us brits, save a few are too scared to use it!!
What are we scared about!!?? Is the gov't going to bang us all up!!?? No!!
They HAVE to listen to the will of the people, and if they dont, and dont act on it,then they dont deserve to be in charge of, OUR!!! country and its affairs!!!
Mr Brown should call a general election to back up his claim to number 10,but he is way too scared to do so as he knows damned well he would loose!!
I am now going for a brisk walk to calm and cool down!!!

Regards from a very Pee'd off british citizen!!
Maybe I WILL!! emigrate!! SOON!!!

More people are leaving the UK (English people) at present according to govt. stats than ever before .... its not hard to work out why, especially to those who live in or around our major cities, especially London. As a child in the 1980s I saw a healthy mix of people in East London, now I do not recognise the streets I grew up in. Political correctness, a nanny socialist state, no smoking in pubs, being made to feel ashamed to be English ... joke! :(

I wasn't speeding.

They accused me of it and made up evidence, lying in court.

If we all drove at the speed limits (as apposed to below it when condiitions dictate), which is what will happen if they fit speed limiters, more people will die on our roads, because we will all think ourselves to be safe at a written number. Different conditions dictate different speeds to be driven at. You can be dangerous when driving at the speed limit in adverse conditions, but safe when driving above the limit in clear dry conditions on a lonely dual carriageway.

Most drivers in this country can work out for themsleves the correct speed to be driving at in different conditions. The minority of idiots who drive above their capability and cause accidents should be targetted by the Police, but there aren't any Police to do it, so they try to control everyone on the road, and will take away the skills of the majority in doing so.

NB I tell my drivers to do what they can when out delivering. If they run short of time, stop and phone in. Do NOT break any speed limits, and do not drive aggresively and/or dangerously. Bring back anything not delivered and do it the following day.

I've never used the cruise control on my car for the very reason that I want to control how fast I go
I can imagine dozing off on a motorway if I used it

Target the uninsured , unlicensed , drunk , drugged etc drivers who don't give damn about others .Leave the rest of us alone

Hi all, its very interesting subject but i disagree with you i drive 35/45000 miles a year and have been driving for 23 years ive never had a speeding fine or parking ticket, the only car crash ive been in was a speeding lorry that drove into me doing 55 in a 30 limit.
Most people in the uk are not able to control their speeds and need to be slowed down or taken off the road, i for one would not like to go home one day knowing ive put someone in their grave because i was speeding for no reason, you drive to the conditions and not to the limit like most people do.
The Uk like all countries has its good and bad points.
kind regards
marcus

They fit speed limiters on lorries, brilliant idea that is. Now we have lorry "A "trying to overtake lorry "B" on a dual carriageway and taking about 5 miles to do it due to governer cutting in at 56Mph creating a rolling roadblock in the process, nearly as ridiculous as the 40Mph limit on single carriageway A roads. Good old nanny state....
