Shock compressor

I think it's used to extract the split pin from the front shock absorber bottom mounting.

Although my WM for the V8 quotes Service Tool 605227, not 600530. Perhaps for the 4-pot? Harvey?

It's the tool for compressing the bottom bushes on the front dampers on all models so you can get the split pin in the correct, inner hole. It also does the same thing on the body end of the diff plate panhard rod.

Worth having, although on the front there are ways around it, which would probably be more difficult on the panhard rod. TBH it wouldn't be difficult to make one.

I've certainly given my one a lot of use, it make the job so easy.

I'll post the picture here to save us linking through to ebay...

How does that work then ?, do you put the pin through the outer hole and the lever the washer & bushes back with it until the inner hole is accessible ?

Certainly for the front shocks it's not necessary.

I use the shaft of a small screw driver through the vertical hole and then slide a tapered ball joint splitter between that and the washer to compress the bushing until I can slide the spit pin through the horizontal hole. This method means you don't have to take the wheels of to change the shocks, just raise the front a little to get your arms through the wheelarch.

I don't know if that will work on the panhard bush though.
