Shedtune P6 Progress

Yep I had that same feeling ....Ive been here before...mainly with Triumphs I have to admit

So you repaired yours ok? ...any links to pictures showing the inner sill to sill interface would be useful ..ie once the inner sill repalced how does the sill attach to the upper part of the inner ..is it spot welded? (I have a spot welder)
Not sure if I explained that school boy quest very well may have to sketch it!

Managed to sneak a couple of hours in the shed - removed the botch panels off the O/S sill floor etc

Nice clean holes look less daunting than lots of crumbling rust and bodged patches.
Keep up the good work.

Mark.

I think this one should be OK to repair. The hole on the bulkhead is on the outside of the suspension mount rather than inside so it's not structural - just ther to hold the wing seal in place.

There are plenty of pictures of sill repairs on both my cars, click the links in my signature and have a read. The drivers side is slight more tricky as the wiring loom runs next to the inner sill so you have to be careful not to cut it or melt it.

Good luck.

Cheers for that - I was thinking the same always nice to have someone who has been there and done it confirm ones thoughts!
Ref the loom- it all ready had a partial join where it had been damaged in previous repairs so I've cut the rest and pulled it back well out the way - I will rejoin with a modern multi pin connector
I removed the battery lead - the insulation looked ropey in a few places so will make a new one up

I've been going through all the pictures I can find of repairs from other members projects etc and found some really useful ones- great forum, great owners!

Back in the Shed Friday so will update progress then ...cheers everyone

No i'm still stripping him down and as a complete novice i am watching everyone else's project to see how they have tackled their tasks.
Its a long way to go but i am learning fast. :D

Well managed to get some more shed time

Decided to start on the O/S which is massively worse than the N/S I've never come across an old car that lives up to the old adage "its a game of two halves!" so well

Stripped some more bits off it ...found loads more rot and rubbish repairs including bog paper and filler! to be honest if I was being sensible I would say its not worth doing but as the car owes me nothing and I love an underdog I'm going to press on and restore the thing...
One thing I wasn't expecting was a completely rotten de dion elbow ... I was hoping the major parts of the suspension would be serviceable after a strip and re-bush ..but not so ...if anyone has some serviceable elbows for sale etc please let me know

I started cutting out some metal and working out the bits I can fabricate myself and which bits I cant and how it all fits together..I enjoy this bit

Removed the fuel tank after draining two gallons of crud out of it - this will allow me to crack on with hot works a bit more safely

So not the best of weeks...to cap it off today the Scimitar stripped its timing gears ...so engine strip down to start next week....doh

Looks like Ive blagged a shed day tommorow woo hoo - determind to weld a new bit of metal into it this weekend just to cheer myslef up!

Made the most of some shed time- decided to start at the rear and work forwards along the O/S which is as rotten as a pear compared to the other side
First off repaired a hole in the chassis partially hidden by the inner wheel arch/bowl –drilled the spot welds out to peel back the bowl and cut all the rot out
Then made a repair panel for the outer section of the arch/bowl
I haven’t had the welder out in anger since doing the spitfire back in 2011so took me awhile to get back into it ..but a solid start …from small acorns mighty oaks and all that!
