Hoping and praying for you Rich in Manchester, constantly in our thoughts. Keep fighting we want you back on here. Very best wishes from us all

Hang in there Boss , It's the summer , Good time to be alive ! Willing you to be well again soon . Come on , get angry 8)

Just had a progress report from Pete who was having a fag break from sitting with Rick and Jo (Rick's wife) at Pinderfields in Wakefield. Pete's description of him is markedly better than I had expected and he seems to have improved somewhat over the course of the day. Clearly though, things are still very serious. You'll all be pleased to know that he is dreaming of drumming - complete with arm and leg movements to match! So if that isn't evidence of fighting spirit I don't know what is!

Keep sending those positive vibes!

Chris

About time for a bit of an update. Well, Rick is still with us. That in itself is a major step forward. Plus the medics seem to have identified the exact strain of, and hence antibiotic to treat, the most damaging of Rick's infections. Rick himself seems to be more comfortable and more with it. There is still lots of scope for setbacks which would be extremely serious, but there are definite grounds for quiet hope as well.

Keep those positive thoughts flowing!

Chris

UPDATE

I have thought long and hard about this update.
Someone commented above that these updates must be difficult
..that is putting it mildly, I have known the family for years,
watched Rick, Jo and their family grow and prosper
and in a lot of ways Rick is like a brother to me.

Not withstanding Chris's comments above Rick is not in too good a place at the moment.

I spent 12 hours with the family at the hospital on Saturday night / Sunday morning.

At that time Rick was at his lowest - hence all the family being called in at one time.
Rick got through the night and when I left on Sunday AM about 6 he was more responsive.

I would like to think he heard me when I told him of all the good wishes
and healing thoughts coming his way from all the good people on here .

Since then it has been a case of almost hour by hour,
with major treatment decisions being taken at 24 hour intervals or when essential.

Monday saw a text from Jo saying that Rick was still under treatment
and no move had been made to palliative care.
I took this to mean that the antibiotics were beginning to get a hold
of the Strep infection (the most serious problem facing Rick).

Ironically (if that is the right word) the leukemia is now in remission.

Today's text says that the doctors are pleased with his progress
and they are going to try him on some nutrition, if they can.
(Rick has not had any solid food for a while now).

Rick is still critical (there I said it) and it could go either way at this point.
However there IS improvement and a glimmer of hope.

Time to ramp up those healing thoughts
and if you are that way inclined
say a small prayer for him and his family.

Pete Knowles

Wishing him all the best and willing him on . Thoughts with you Rich and family . I'll try a prayer .

Thank you for the updates Pete & Chris.

I'm sure we are all rooting & praying for Richard. Come on mate, you've been so strong through this so far, just a bit more of that fighting spirit can pull you through!

Thanks for having the strength and courage to update us on the forum Pete and I'm sure Jo and the kids appreciate it too.

We're all willing him to recover soon.

SATURDAY UPDATE

It's been a long few days as you can imagine.

I got in to see Rick again on Wednesday
He was a little more 'with it' although still very ill.

On Thursday the medical staff did a complete 're-plumbing' exercise - hence little visiting.
Unfortunately there was another infection found in the Central Line,
although not as severe as some of his other infections if that makes sense.
The decision was taken to move the Central Line to a Neck Line and also install a Feed Line,
mainly to try and get some more nutrition into Rick to add the fight against the infections.

I managed to get in to see him again on Friday.
In himself he seemed to me to be a little better and the doctors appeared pleased with his progress
at this point although they are not hanging out the bunting just yet....

The nutrition line was stopped at midnight Friday to allow a series of scans to be done this morning,
most notably for liver damage and kidney damage - he was looking a little yellow.

I am pleased to say that when I popped up to Jo's for a cup of tea at lunchtime today the results were in
and there seems to be no serious liver or kidney damage although they are monitoring it
and obviously he has pipes fitted to deal with all that anyhow.

Whilst Rick seems to have 'turned the corner' there are still many bends in the road ahead that could cause problems.

I will be popping in to see him again on Sunday afternoon.

KEEP SENDING THOSE HEALING THOUGHTS & PRAYERS.

PLEASE DO NOT RING THE HOSPITAL ASKING ABOUT RICHARD - THEY ARE EXTREMELY BUSY TRYING TO KEEP PEOPLE TICKING OVER
