Rear Quarter Panel.

I8 won't ask " Has anyone done this job ?" Because I'd be surprised if the answer was NO!! I need to renew the Vinyl on the rear quarter panels, the sections between the rear doors and the rear screen, Woolies have the material, but I would like to know if it is an uncomplecated job. Please.
Julian.

Hi Julian.
It is an easy job!!
1st remove the inner trim 1/4 panel to access some of the screws! Some may have rivets securing it in the door appature inner edge, drill these out with about a 4mm bit! But should be countersunk chrome phillips head thread!
Ease the 1/4 panel off as it will be binding under the rear screen seal!
Strip all the old vynil off,and give the panel a good clean up key with light grade paper.
Cover the whole panel with glue, and place the vynil on it so it well overlaps, best to use a stiff roller like an decorating edging trim thingy,to press it firmly and evenly onto the metal. ease the vynil into all the contours, using a hair dryer to soften the vynil will help ease it into difficult contours!
Dont forget before you put it back to open the holes for the ship badge if you have them! They are difficult to remove and re-use,and some just stick them in place!
Replace will be a reverse of remove, but remember to put some sealant where it meets the rear window trim! You can re-rivet or use proper fixings!
Just a sunny saturday mornings work!!
Have fun!!
BTW???
It could be hard to get a good match for browns and the embossed pattern to match the roof!
Blacks vary as well!!
It may be better to try and find a good original s/h pair and fit those instead!
Try ianp6man,he has a few shed fulls of good s/h spares!!

I'm puzzled now, not the first time I admit :? have all P6s got the vinyl on those rear quarter panels, or do you think that as it is on this car that I have, that the car would have had a vinyl covered roof at some time? Just a matter of interest, even at my age I am still learning!! It's a great pastime though!
Julian.

Only series 2 cars had the vinyl, and that was on all cars regardless of whether they had a vinyl roof or not.

I'm with you Dave. Seen this?

More smoke and mirrors, and just plain lies.

The only reason to drop the speeed limit is so that more people ignore it, and the government can collect more fines. They are short of money after all.

Done it!! That was a nice little job, had the material from Woolies,£6.00 +p&p, and as we had a very warm day today I went for it, and by following your directions it was easy, no rivets, nice shiny chrome countersunk. Bodywork has never been my choice of jobs, always been a spanner and hammer man!!!! Yes it does look very nice indeed, even though I say so myself. I thank you again.
