So I introduced my new project last week. i have been driving it daily for 2 weeks and no major issues. it seems to have an oil leak, but it's been raining so not sure where or how bad. At least it's NOT out the tailpipe.

I posted pictures in introductions and I am informed the "board attachment quota has been reached.... I have done just basic work on it so far. Changed oil and flushed radiator. i will be servicing the diff, trans etc this week. Got to make sure everything has oil or grease as required.. So.. what have I done so far? well here's what we started with...

I replaced the steel wheels and caps with the Rostyles and put some soft and grippy rubber on for the winter. I also sourced a new (to me) right rear fender that is rust free. I'll be prepping it for paint and installation. I could not handle the horrid 80's monza mirrors anymore (they didn't even adjust so I could use them) so good old Canadian tire (auto parts and hardware store in Canada) yeilded some classic looking mirrors in the highest quality Chinese chrome. They look more correct, and should stand up if kept clean and waxed. (I have some on another project car and they still look good 3 years later).

The wheels I should say were not the best condition. They had significant rust and peeling of the chrome in the valley between the bead seat area (rim) and the center disc. I cleaned this area with window cleaner and steel wool untill loose scale and discolouration was removed. the remaining raw mettal i painted with silver metalic "wheel paint". The effect is good. the eye is no longer drawn to the rust damage, but the shiny chrome on the rim and Rostyle "spoke" pattern. i will touch up the black wedge shapes in springtime. .

Aside from replacing the rear quarter, I hope to sort out a few interior flaws in the next week or so. Some lights in the dash are out, choke light inop (and i do tend to forget to release the choke after warm up) and I need to sort the radio. The current unit is a late 80's LED Cassette. I am debating trying to find one more period correct looking or just going straight to a contemporary unit with MP3 capability etc. I spend an hour in the car inimum every day, and longer commute on the weekends. Need good tunes. Any thoughts?

IF I can find a correct unot i will likely mount a hidden CD layer. I have done this in many projects. in a Fairlane I recently finished, i gutted a 1969 vintage 8 track player and hid a modern CD MP# player inside. I'd consider doing that again, but locating vintage 4 and 8 tracks is not all that easy these days.

I also have an array of switches and dials on the dash I have no clue about. I should figure them out before I do anything with them.

Winter driving has also given me a desire to fit fog lights. Not big works style ones like on my LandRovers and minis, but subtle under bumper ones. perhaps styled like Vintage Marchalls.. We'll see what comes up i guess.

Got to love Vancouver, have been there a lot! Looks quite familiar as well on the pictures. Quite suprised about Canadian Tyre being useful though

I love the fact that your car still has the blue right-angles around the TC-badges and off course the red lenses of the rear indicators! Love to see more pictures though, maybe you can use flickr? Works for me and that way I have a database of pictures for future reference.

Good luck with your project,
Andries

My word, that is the definitive livery for a US TC! Looks lovely. What was wrong with the fender - looks OK in the pictures?

Your car looks great, and the roof rack too! In terms of radios, I had a Pioneer DEH 1800R in my old car, and found that it went well with the interior design and style (notably the silver Vol and Band controls), not to mention that it had green illumination. The forward thinking P6 interior made it look quite plausible.

"new" wheels and new Mirrors

Canadian Tire is not great for many thmngs, but they stock rear view Mirrors that look right on older cars. Theyu are cheap and prone to rust, but keep them clean and waxed, they will last. I considered wing mirrors, but to be honest, I find them useless and difficult to adjust.

The right rear fender (quarter panel) has a huge hole in it, that's why I'll be replacing it. The car isn't all that rusty for it' s age. i can see it was bodged up at one point, but it's structurally sound.
