My car, which has the original radio fitted needs to have the key turned to position 2. What is that position for if not to have the radio on without switching on the ignition? The radio supply should be taken from the unfused side of fuse 23-24, which is the 15 amp fuse supplying the heater motor and should have its own in-line fuse. Pulling the fuses out will not therefore be the solution, you will need to trace the supply to the radio and find the in-line fuse, they are normally adjacent to the radio. If a modern radio has been fitted, then there has to be a permanent supply to maintain the memory. If it is supplied from the wiper supply then the switch would have to be in the "run" position.
